Where Argon Drops and Why Void Missions Are the Only Source

Argon Crystals are exclusive to the Void tileset — the gold-and-white Orokin architecture seen in Tier 1–5 Void missions. They cannot drop from any other planet or location, no matter what mission type you're running. This makes farming highly predictable: queue any Void mission and run it for drops.

Argon drops from three sources within Void missions. (1) Enemies have a small chance to drop Argon on kill — typically Corrupted Lancers, Corrupted Heavies, and Corrupted Crewmen. (2) Resource containers (the breakable storage crates) have a noticeably higher per-container chance than enemies. (3) Special resource caches in Sabotage missions reliably yield Argon as one of the cache rewards. Specific per-enemy and per-container percentages are not officially published by Digital Extremes — community-data-mined estimates put enemy rates in the low single digits and container rates somewhat higher, but we recommend checking the official drop tables linked in the Sources section for current numbers.

The cleanest farming approach: run Void Capture missions (Hepit on Tier 1 or Ukko on Tier 2). These are short, focused, and let you break containers quickly. A Hepit Capture takes ~90 seconds solo and typically yields 1–2 Argon per run. Over 30 minutes of looping Hepit, you can collect 10–15 Argon — more than enough for any single craft requirement.

Alternative: Mot (Tier 5 Survival) gives higher enemy density and longer mission time per Argon drop. A 20-minute Mot run typically yields 3–6 Argon. The trade-off is mission length and increased difficulty (Tier 5 enemies are tougher).

Best Argon Farming Missions

The 24-Hour Decay Timer — Why You Can't Stockpile Argon

Argon Crystals are unique in that they decay over time after pickup. Specifically: every 24 hours since the moment you picked up an Argon Crystal, your total Argon count halves (rounded down). If you have 10 Argon and don't use them within 24 hours, you'll have 5 the next day, then 2 the day after, then 1, then 0. This decay is unique to Argon — no other Warframe resource has a decay mechanic.

The timer starts from when you FIRST picked up an Argon Crystal during your most recent acquisition session. Once decay starts, additional Argon Crystals you pick up later DO refresh the timer but don't 'protect' your stockpile entirely. The practical result: you cannot hoard Argon. You must farm exactly what you need for upcoming crafts, then use them within 24 hours, or accept the decay loss.

Optimal strategy: check your Foundry for builds requiring Argon BEFORE farming. If you need 4 Argon for a Forma blueprint and an Akbronco Prime, farm 5–6 Argon in one session (one for buffer/decay loss), then craft both items within 24 hours. Don't farm 10 Argon 'just in case' — you'll lose half by tomorrow.

Helminth feeding tip: Argon is in Helminth's Bile category. If you have surplus Argon about to decay and Helminth's Bile is low, feed the surplus to Helminth — it counts as Bile feed and doesn't waste the Argon to decay. This is one of the few cases where Helminth-feeding rare resources is actually optimal.

Practical Argon Farming Tips

• Run Hepit Captures back-to-back for fastest farming: Hepit's 2-min solo clear means 30 cycles per hour, yielding 30–60 Argon — far more than any single build requires.
• Use a speed frame (Volt, Gauss, Wisp): These frames blast through Capture missions in 60–90 seconds, dramatically improving Argon per hour.
• Bring a Smeeta Kavat companion: The Smeeta's Charm ability has a chance to proc Resource Double — a buff that doubles all resource drops for 2 minutes. Multiple proc cycles per hour double your effective Argon yield.
• Stack a Resource Booster: A 24-hour Resource Booster (250 Plat) doubles drop rate of all resources. Combined with Smeeta Charm, you can quadruple drops temporarily. Schedule Argon farming during your Resource Booster window for max efficiency.
• Don't farm before sleeping: Argon decay starts the moment you pick up the first crystal. Farming Argon and going to bed wastes 50% of the haul by morning. Farm just before crafting.
• Check Helminth Bile before farming: If Helminth is hungry for Bile and you're farming Argon anyway, surplus Argon goes to good use feeding Helminth instead of decaying.
• Sabotage caches give guaranteed Argon: Marduk Sabotage and other Void Sabotage missions have caches that include Argon. Bring a Loot Frame (Khora, Nekros, Ivara) for extra drops from cache enemies.
• Avoid Defense/Mobile Defense unless you need other rewards too: These missions have higher mission time per Argon compared to Capture. Only use them if you're farming relics or other rewards simultaneously.
• Run Mot for combo Argon + endurance practice: A 20-min Mot Survival yields Argon, relic drops, kuva, and good combat practice. Multi-purpose farming.

What Builds Require Argon — Plan Your Farming Around These

Argon Crystals are required for many high-tier crafts in Warframe. Knowing which builds need Argon lets you plan farming sessions around upcoming crafts. The most common Argon requirements:

Forma blueprint: 1 Argon Crystal per Forma. Forma is the most common Argon sink for most players because endgame builds use multiple Forma per item. If you craft 3 Forma at once, that's 3 Argon — farm 4 to allow for decay buffer.

Prime Warframe components: Most Prime Warframe Neuroptics, Chassis, and Systems require 1–2 Argon each. Saryn Prime's full set requires 4–6 Argon depending on the parts. Plan a single farming session to gather enough Argon for the entire Prime build.

Orokin Reactor + Catalyst blueprints: 1 Argon Crystal each. If you're crafting potatoes from blueprint (less common than buying built ones), this adds up over time.

Helminth chamber initial build: 5 Argon Crystals required during construction. One-time cost but needed during the Heart of Deimos quest completion.

Verdict: Capture (Hepit) is the most efficient Argon-per-minute farm — best for targeted Argon collection. Mot Survival is better for multi-resource farming sessions where you want Argon, relic drops, kuva, and endurance practice combined. Solo low-MR players should default to Hepit; veteran players doing bulk farming use Mot.
