What Is Kuva Used For?

Kuva is a unique resource with two primary uses: rerolling Riven mods and crafting Kuva Lich weapons via the Kuva Fortress arsenal. Riven mods are randomized weapon upgrades with variable stats — players who want specific stat combinations must reroll using Kuva, with each reroll costing 900–3,500 Kuva depending on the number of previous rolls. Serious Riven crafters can spend hundreds of thousands of Kuva chasing a single ideal roll.

Kuva Lich weapons are a second major sink — the Kuva Weapons system produces 16 unique weapons through the Lich hunting mechanic, and each weapon can be leveled with Kuva after acquisition. Additionally, some consumable blueprints and Nightwave store items occasionally require Kuva.

Unlike standard resources, Kuva cannot be dropped by regular enemies. It is exclusively earned from Kuva Siphon missions, Kuva Flood missions, Kuva Survival at the Kuva Fortress, or Requiem Fissure missions.

Kuva Siphon Missions — How They Work

Kuva Siphon missions appear as special alert-style nodes across the Star Chart, marked with a distinctive Kuva symbol. Several are active simultaneously at any time, and they rotate every hour. Each Kuva Siphon mission tasks you with destroying a Kuva Siphon device by interrupting four braids it periodically extends.

The braids emerge from the Siphon every 15–20 seconds. When a braid appears, you must pass through it (walk or roll through the visible energy stream) while in Warframe mode — Operator mode does not interrupt braids. After passing through all four braid instances, the Siphon is destroyed and you earn Kuva. A base Siphon awards approximately 600 Kuva.

The mission type underlying the Siphon node varies — it can be Capture, Exterminate, Rescue, Sabotage, or Survival. Your objective is always the Siphon, but the mission type affects how enemies spawn around you while you hunt the device. Capture-type Siphons tend to be the fastest since the target enemy is quick to locate.

Braid Detection Tips — Never Miss a Braid

  • Watch for the swirling, glowing energy stream that extends from the Siphon device when a braid is active. The braid has a distinct audio cue — a high-pitched hum.
  • You MUST be in Warframe form (not Operator) to interrupt a braid. Entering Operator mode near a braid will not destroy it.
  • Walk or roll directly through the visible energy column. The braid will shatter with a flash and audio confirmation.
  • Braids can appear from any side of the Siphon — orbit it regularly to catch new braids as they form.
  • If you miss a braid, it will retract after several seconds, but a new one will emerge shortly. Missing braids only delays the Siphon — it cannot fail unless you extract without destroying the Siphon.
  • In a squad, multiple players can interrupt separate braids simultaneously — coordinate to destroy the Siphon faster.

Kuva Flood Missions — Always Priority

Kuva Flood missions function identically to Kuva Siphons but are flagged with a higher difficulty modifier and award approximately double the Kuva — around 1,200 to 1,800 per mission. Only one Kuva Flood is active at a time, and it refreshes on the same hourly rotation as Siphons.

Kuva Flood enemies are at a minimum enemy level of 80–100, making them more dangerous than standard Siphon missions. Players should bring a solid build (Steel Path ready or close to it) before attempting Floods. However, the doubled Kuva payout makes them worth the difficulty investment — always prioritize the Flood over a standard Siphon if one is active.

Track active Floods using the Star Chart's alert section or third-party tools like Warframe Status (warframestatus.net). Some players set timers to catch each new Flood cycle as it appears.

Kuva Survival — Sustained Farming Method

Location
Taveuni, Kuva Fortress (Kuva Survival)
Start point
Spawn — establish a kill zone and stay near the life support capsules
Yield
~2,800–4,200 Kuva per 20-minute run (without Riven mod rerolling calculation)

Steps

  1. Navigate to Taveuni on the Kuva Fortress node. Requires completing The War Within quest.
  2. Kuva Survival works like standard Survival but life support capsules also drop Kuva from enemies killed near them.
  3. Stay near the Kuva-generating life support device (marked in blue/purple on the minimap) to capture Kuva from kills.
  4. Earn approximately 200 Kuva per rotation interval in addition to the base life support reward.
  5. At the five-minute mark, interact with the life support to claim the Kuva.
  6. Continue running until 20–40 minutes depending on time available.

Tips

  • Kuva Survival is an excellent choice when active Siphon/Flood missions are not available or have been completed for the cycle.
  • This node also functions as a Requiem Fissure occasionally — when it does, you earn Kuva AND crack Requiem relics simultaneously.
  • Bring Banshee (Silence) or Khora for high enemy-kill rates to maximize Kuva earned from kills near the capsules.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to farm Kuva in Warframe?

Complete all active Kuva Flood and Kuva Siphon missions each hour as they rotate. Always prioritize Kuva Floods (double Kuva yield). Between cycles, run Kuva Survival at Taveuni (Kuva Fortress) for a steady ~700 Kuva per five minutes.

How much Kuva does a Kuva Siphon give?

A standard Kuva Siphon awards approximately 600–900 Kuva per mission. A Kuva Flood awards 1,200–1,800 Kuva. These numbers can vary slightly based on mission modifiers.

How do I destroy a Kuva Siphon braid?

Walk or roll through the glowing energy braid that extends from the Siphon device while in Warframe form (not Operator). Destroy four braids to destroy the Siphon. The braid will visually shatter and you will hear an audio confirmation when successfully interrupted.

How much Kuva does it cost to reroll a Riven?

The first Riven reroll costs 900 Kuva. Each subsequent reroll on the same Riven increases in cost, capping at 3,500 Kuva per roll after many rerolls. Chasing a perfect stat combination can cost hundreds of thousands of Kuva total.

Do I need to complete The War Within to farm Kuva?

Yes. Kuva Siphon missions and all Kuva-related content require completing The War Within quest, which unlocks the Kuva Fortress and the Operator's combat abilities. This is a mandatory story quest in the main Warframe narrative.

Can I farm Kuva in a squad?

Yes, and squads make Siphon missions faster since multiple players can interrupt separate braids simultaneously. Squads also keep enemy levels manageable on higher-difficulty Flood missions. Kuva earned is shared equally regardless of who interrupts which braid.
