Needolin in Silksong — How to Get It and Every Resonance Site

What the Needolin is and why it matters
The Needolin is Silksong's traversal-flavoured quest item — a lyre-like instrument Hornet plays at marked resonance sites to unlock lore, side quests, and the true ending. It is one of three required items for the Crowned final boss (alongside the three Resonance Keys), so missing the Needolin permanently locks you out of the canonical ending.
Mechanically, the Needolin is simple. It does not occupy a Tool slot or cost silk to use. You hold the special-input button (Y on controller, R on keyboard) and Hornet plays a short melody. Standing at a resonance site triggers a 15-second cutscene that grants the site's specific reward. Outside resonance sites the Needolin has no effect — it's not a combat tool or a movement option.
What makes the Needolin a high-search topic is the resonance sites themselves. There are 9 across Pharloom, scattered behind various unlock prerequisites. Most guides cover only the first 4 (the easy ones); the last 5 require specific Wishes, traversal tools, or boss kills. Following the order below ensures you collect all 9 without backtracking.

How to get the Needolin (step-by-step walkthrough)
- Travel to Bellhart village. Bench is in the central plaza.
- Speak to the Bellhart Wish Wall NPC. Scroll to 'Echoes Below' — costs nothing to activate.
- Travel to Greymoor (requires Clawline + completion of the Far Fields east gate).
- From the Greymoor anchor, head south along the spiral path. Use Clawline anchor points at the cliffside gaps.
- Reach the abandoned shrine entrance. Drop down into the inner chamber.
- Defeat Echo Knight 1 (silver armor, parry-only sword swing). HP ~280. Hunter Crest two-cycle.
- Defeat Echo Knight 2 (silver armor with shield, parry-only shield bash). HP ~320. Same Hunter Crest setup.
- Approach the central altar. Cutscene plays — Hornet picks up the Needolin.
- Return to Bellhart Wish Wall, hand in 'Echoes Below' — Wish reward is 400 rosaries plus a tracking pin for all 9 resonance sites on your map.
All 9 resonance sites — locations and rewards
Resonance sites are marked on the map with a small wave-icon after you acquire the Needolin and complete the 'Echoes Below' Wish (the Wish itself unlocks the icons; without it, sites are invisible). Each site has a unique reward — most give rosaries plus a Wish completion, three give Resonance Keys for the true ending.
The order below follows progression accessibility. Sites 1-4 are mid-game (immediately after Needolin pickup); sites 5-7 require additional traversal tools (Harpoon for Whiteward, downstrike-pogo mastery for Sinner's Road); sites 8-9 require post-Crust King access to Cogwork Core and Citadel.
All 9 resonance sites in pickup order
- Greymoor north pillar — 1st site, 300 rosaries + Silk Spool. Free pickup right after acquiring Needolin.
- Greymoor abandoned shrine — 2nd site, 200 rosaries + 1 Mask Shard. Same room where you picked up the Needolin.
- Bellhart shrine roof — 3rd site, 400 rosaries + 'Cartographer' Wish auto-completes. Climb to roof via Clawline.
- Bone Bottom well — 4th site, 250 rosaries + lore tablet. Drop into the well, play Needolin at the bottom altar.
- Whiteward chapel — 5th site, RESONANCE KEY 1 (required for true ending). Play in the back room behind the Wish Wall.
- Whiteward seamstress chapel — 6th site, 500 rosaries + Parry Charm. Harpoon the door, play inside.
- Sinner's Road shrine — 7th site, 600 rosaries + Witherspit Tool unlock. Reach via downstrike-pogo through spike corridor.
- Cogwork Core central platform — 8th site, RESONANCE KEY 2 (required for true ending). Post-Crust King access only.
- Citadel approach — 9th site, RESONANCE KEY 3 (required for true ending). Post-Carmelita; locked behind the Citadel gate.
Echo Knight fight details — the only combat gate
Both Echo Knights guard the Needolin altar and must be defeated in sequence (no checkpoint between). Both share the same parry-friendly design: every attack telegraphs with a 0.5-second wind-up, and parries return roughly 40 damage each. Total fight time is ~3 minutes at the recommended HP/Crest setup; this is mid-tier difficulty by Silksong standards.
Echo Knight 1 has a sword swing that telegraphs by drawing the blade overhead. Parry the swing, riposte for 40 damage, repeat. He also throws a slow Echo Wave projectile — dash through it; not parry-eligible. Total ~280 HP, dies in 7 parry cycles.
Echo Knight 2 adds a shield bash (parryable, returns 50 damage) and a shield-spin (avoid by jumping over the wave). His shield blocks all needle attacks from the front — only parry ripostes deal damage. Total ~320 HP, dies in 8 parry cycles. Equip Parry Charm if you have it (Whiteward purchase, 600 rosaries) — the extended window makes both knights significantly easier.
Recommended Echo Knights loadout
| Slot | Recommended pick | Why / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Crest | Hunter Crest | +1 parry frame passive; cleanest riposte timing on both knights |
| Red Tool 1 | Threaded Sword | Silk-dash between parries for extra chip damage |
| Red Tool 2 | Mossberry Salve | 1 mask heal over 6 seconds; saves Bind for emergencies |
| Blue Tool | Pebble Drop | Hit Echo Knight 2 when his shield is raised — pebble bypasses block |
| Yellow Tool | Drifter's Cloak | Iframes for Echo Wave dodge if you mistime the dash |
| Charm | Parry Charm (if owned) | Whiteward purchase 600 rosaries; +2 parry frames — fight becomes trivial |
Resonance site rewards summary
| Site | Reward | Wish completion? | True ending? | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Greymoor north pillar | Greymoor north pillar | 300 rosaries + Silk Spool | Yes — 'Echoes Below' | No |
| Greymoor shrine | Greymoor shrine | 200 rosaries + Mask Shard | No | No |
| Bellhart roof | Bellhart roof | 400 rosaries + Wish complete | Yes — 'Cartographer' | No |
| Bone Bottom well | Bone Bottom well | 250 rosaries + lore tablet | No | No |
| Whiteward chapel | Whiteward chapel | RESONANCE KEY 1 | No | YES |
| Whiteward seamstress | Whiteward seamstress | 500 rosaries + Parry Charm | No | No |
| Sinner's Road shrine | Sinner's Road shrine | 600 rosaries + Witherspit Tool | Yes — 'Sinner's Peace' | No |
| Cogwork Core platform | Cogwork Core platform | RESONANCE KEY 2 | No | YES |
| Citadel approach | Citadel approach | RESONANCE KEY 3 | No | YES |
Verdict: Sites 5, 8, and 9 are the true-ending sites — never skip them. Site 7 (Sinner's Road) drops the Witherspit Tool, which is the cornerstone of the Shaman Crest poison build. Site 6 (Whiteward seamstress) drops the Parry Charm — vital for hard parry bosses like Pinstress.
Common Needolin mistakes
- Skipping the 'Echoes Below' Wish. The Needolin is gated behind it — without the Wish activation, the abandoned shrine entrance is sealed.
- Trying to play Needolin outside resonance sites. The input does nothing — Hornet pulls out the lyre but no effect triggers. Resonance sites are the only valid use.
- Killing only Echo Knight 1 and leaving. Both must die in the same fight; respawning a single knight resets the room.
- Forgetting to hand in 'Echoes Below'. The Needolin works without handing in the Wish, but the resonance-site map pins only appear after Bellhart hand-in.
- Skipping the Whiteward chapel site because it looks 'optional'. It drops Resonance Key 1 — required for the true ending.
- Trying to access Cogwork Core resonance site before Crust King. The platform is gated by Crust King's death; pre-fight the platform won't spawn the resonance prompt.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the Needolin in Silksong?
Greymoor abandoned shrine, south of the Greymoor anchor along the spiral path. Requires the 'Echoes Below' Wish from Bellhart Wish Wall to unlock the shrine entrance. After defeating two Echo Knight bosses, the Needolin appears on the central altar.
How many resonance sites are there?
9 across all 14 Pharloom regions. Sites 5 (Whiteward chapel), 8 (Cogwork Core central platform), and 9 (Citadel approach) drop the three Resonance Keys required for the true ending. The other 6 sites give rosaries, Wish completions, or unique items like the Parry Charm and Witherspit Tool.
Is the Needolin a combat tool?
No — it doesn't occupy a Tool slot or cost silk. It's a quest item used only at resonance sites. Outside those sites, the Needolin has no effect when played.
What does the Needolin input button do?
Holds the special button (Y on controller, R on keyboard default) to play a short melody. At resonance sites, the melody triggers a 15-second cutscene that grants the site's reward. Elsewhere, the input does nothing functionally.
Can I get the true ending without the Needolin?
No. The three resonance-site Resonance Keys are mandatory for Crowned to spawn after the standard ending. The Needolin is the only way to claim those keys. Skipping the Needolin permanently locks you out of the true ending — there is no alternative path.
Are the Echo Knights hard?
Mid-tier — both are parry-friendly and predictable. Hunter Crest + Parry Charm (if owned) makes the fight trivial. Without Parry Charm, expect 3-5 attempts for a clean clear. Total fight time ~3 minutes at the recommended loadout.
Does the Needolin tracker show all resonance sites?
Only after handing in the 'Echoes Below' Wish at Bellhart. Before hand-in, sites are invisible on the map. After hand-in, all 9 sites display as wave-icon pins, even ones you don't yet have access to (Whiteward, Cogwork Core, Citadel).
