Garmond and Verdania Quest in Silksong — Full Knight-Pair Walkthrough

Who Garmond and Verdania are
Garmond and Verdania are a recurring knight-pair NPC duo who appear in five Silksong regions as part of a single Wish chain. Garmond is the older, scarred knight in red-tinted armour; Verdania is the younger, green-cloaked partner with a perpetual notebook. They are romantic partners in the fiction (Team Cherry confirmed this on the official site) and the Wish chain explores their relationship across the game's run.
Mechanically, the duo functions as a single Wish ('A Knight's Tale') split into five meetings. Each meeting auto-tracks once you arrive at the correct region with the correct boss-kill state. The reward at the final Citadel terminus meeting includes Resonance Key fragment 3 of 3 — the last of the three keys required for the true ending. That makes this quest mandatory for true-ending completion, not optional.
Three things will fail the chain. We document them below so you don't soft-lock the chain on a first playthrough.
All 5 meeting checkpoints
| Stage | Location | Required boss state | Reward | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Stage 1 | Bellhart south-east corner | None (chapter 1 open) | Wish chain starts; 200 rosaries |
| Stage 2 | Stage 2 | Greymoor pilgrim camp | Defeated Moss Mother | Dialogue lore tablet; 250 rosaries |
| Stage 3 | Stage 3 | Sinner's Road bench area | Defeated Trobbio | Garmond's promise dialogue; 1 Mask Shard |
| Stage 4 | Stage 4 | Cogwork Core entry | Defeated Carmelita (NOT skipped) | Verdania's notebook fragment; 400 rosaries |
| Stage 5 | Stage 5 | Citadel terminus | Defeated Last Judge | Resonance Key fragment 3 + 800 rosaries |
Stage 1 — Bellhart south-east corner
On your first Bellhart visit, walk past the Wish Wall toward the south-east corner. Garmond and Verdania stand at a small alcove near the Cartographer's platform. Talk to Garmond first, then talk to Verdania. The Wish 'A Knight's Tale' activates in your tracker and you receive 200 rosaries.
Dialogue options matter: when Verdania asks 'Will you carry word of us, traveller?' choose 'Yes, I will carry your tale' rather than 'I make no promises.' The latter does not fail the chain but it does lose a small dialogue tree at the final Citadel terminus meeting (you miss 100 rosaries and a lore line). Pick the 'Yes' option for completeness.
You do not need to fight any boss before Stage 1. The earlier you start the chain, the more comfortable the chapter-locked stages are.
Stage 2 — Greymoor pilgrim camp (post-Moss Mother)
After defeating Moss Mother and unlocking the Greymoor region, walk north from the Greymoor bench until you find the pilgrim camp (a cluster of three lit braziers around a central fire). Garmond and Verdania are camped on the east side, sharing rations.
Talk to BOTH characters. Verdania hands you a lore tablet and 250 rosaries. The dialogue includes a foreshadowing line about 'the cogwork giant' — this is foreshadowing the Cogwork Core meeting later, not a separate quest. Move on after the dialogue completes.
Failure flag: if you defeat Trobbio before reaching this stage, Garmond and Verdania leave the Greymoor camp and you must catch up to them in the next chapter without the Stage 2 reward. The chain still advances but you lose the 250 rosaries and the lore tablet.
Stage 3 — Sinner's Road bench area (post-Trobbio)
After defeating Trobbio in the High Halls, you'll unlock Sinner's Road via the chapel exit. Walk to the Sinner's Road bench and look around — Garmond and Verdania are seated on a stone bench just west of the save point. Talk to both.
This is the emotional centre of the chain. Garmond speaks of 'the promise' (referencing Stage 1 dialogue) and Verdania hands you 1 Mask Shard. If you chose 'I make no promises' at Stage 1, Verdania's dialogue is shorter and you receive only 200 rosaries instead of the Mask Shard.
Save at the bench after the meeting. The next stage is gated behind Carmelita; don't progress until you're sure your Carmelita build is ready.
Stage 4 — Cogwork Core entry (post-Carmelita)
After defeating Carmelita on the Slab, you unlock the Cogwork Core region. At the entry chamber (the first room with the giant geared wheel), Garmond and Verdania stand near the cogwork giant statue. Talk to both.
This is the longest meeting dialogue in the chain (~3 minutes). Garmond reveals his backstory; Verdania reads from her notebook. After the dialogue you receive a 'Verdania's notebook fragment' lore tablet and 400 rosaries. The notebook fragment is needed for the Stage 5 reward dialogue — do not sell it.
Save at the nearest Cogwork Core bench after this meeting. The chain has only one stage left.
Stage 5 — Citadel terminus (post-Last Judge)
After defeating Last Judge and unlocking the Citadel terminus, walk into the terminus chamber's central platform. Garmond and Verdania are standing on the platform near the terminus board. Talk to both — Garmond first, then Verdania.
Verdania asks you for 'the promise' (Stage 1 dialogue echo) and 'the notebook fragment' (Stage 4 reward). If you have both, she hands you Resonance Key fragment 3 of 3 plus 800 rosaries. If you chose 'I make no promises' at Stage 1, you get only the Resonance Key (no 800 rosaries). If you lost the notebook fragment somehow, the chain fails entirely.
After the dialogue, Garmond and Verdania leave the Citadel terminus permanently. Their statue appears in the Bellhart south-east corner as a lore-tablet memorial.
Three failure flags that lock the chain
- Skipping Greymoor pilgrim camp before Trobbio: Stage 2 reward (250 rosaries + lore tablet) is permanently lost. Chain advances but with reduced rewards.
- Talking to only one of Garmond or Verdania at any stage: stage does not register; you must leave the area, return, and talk to both. If you defeat the gating boss in the interim, the stage may auto-fail.
- Defeating Carmelita before doing Stage 4: Stage 4 spawns Garmond and Verdania, but only if you arrive at Cogwork Core entry within ~30 minutes of the Carmelita kill. Lingering elsewhere for too long despawns the Stage 4 spawn.
Reward summary by dialogue path
| Path | Total rosaries | Mask Shard | Lore tablets | Resonance Key | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Optimal | Optimal (always 'I promise', talk to both) | 1,850 rosaries | 1 | 2 | 1 (Frag 3 of 3) |
| Promise-skip | 'I make no promises' path | 1,650 rosaries | 0 (200 rosaries instead) | 1 | 1 (Frag 3 of 3) |
| Stage 2 skipped | Stage 2 skipped (Trobbio before Greymoor) | 1,600 rosaries | 1 | 1 | 1 (Frag 3 of 3) |
| Chain failed | Chain failed (one-NPC skip) | 200-500 rosaries | 0 | 0 | 0 (Frag 3 unobtainable) |
Verdict: Always pick 'I will carry your tale' at Stage 1 and ALWAYS talk to both characters at every meeting. The Resonance Key fragment is the locked-in reward — failure flags only reduce the secondary rosary/Mask Shard rewards, but Frag 3 is mandatory for the true ending.
Common mistakes
- Talking to only Garmond and not Verdania (or vice versa). The stage registers as 'half complete' and the next stage doesn't spawn.
- Selling the notebook fragment to a vendor in Cogwork Core. It's a unique quest item; once sold, the Stage 5 reward downgrades.
- Defeating Last Judge before doing Stage 5. The Citadel terminus opens immediately after Last Judge — Garmond and Verdania are waiting there. There's no fail condition here, but rushing through dialogue loses lore tablets.
- Picking 'I make no promises' at Stage 1 thinking it's cleverer. The 'Yes' option is the canon path and rewards the most rosaries.
- Activating the Wish at Bellhart but never returning to talk to Garmond and Verdania. The Wish auto-activates the chain but Stage 1 dialogue is required to register the boss-state checks.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I first meet Garmond and Verdania?
On your first Bellhart visit, walk to the south-east corner near the Cartographer's platform. They stand at a small alcove together. Talk to both — Garmond first, then Verdania — to start the 5-stage Wish chain 'A Knight's Tale.'
Is the Garmond and Verdania quest required for the true ending?
Yes — the Stage 5 Citadel terminus reward includes Resonance Key fragment 3 of 3. The true ending requires all three Resonance Key fragments, so completing this Wish chain is mandatory for the true ending route.
What happens if I miss a stage?
Missing a stage forfeits that stage's secondary rewards (rosaries, Mask Shard, lore tablet) but the chain typically advances to the next stage on its own. The exception is the Stage 5 final meeting, where the Resonance Key fragment is only awarded if you carried the Stage 4 notebook fragment. Missing Stage 4 entirely locks out the true ending.
Do I need to talk to both Garmond and Verdania at every stage?
Yes — every stage requires dialogue with both characters in sequence. Talking to only one registers the stage as 'half complete' and prevents the next stage from spawning. If you only talk to one and then leave, return immediately and finish the other dialogue.
Can I do this chain on multiple save files?
Yes — the chain is per-save-file. There is no cross-save penalty. New Game Plus also resets the chain (Stage 1 begins again at Bellhart).
Does dialogue choice actually matter?
Yes for one specific choice. At Stage 1, choosing 'Yes, I will carry your tale' over 'I make no promises' changes the Stage 3 reward (Mask Shard vs 200 rosaries) and adds a Stage 5 dialogue tree worth 100 extra rosaries. Total opportunity cost of the 'promise-skip' path is 1 Mask Shard plus 200 rosaries.
Will Garmond or Verdania die in the chain?
Spoiler-light answer: the chain has a bittersweet emotional payoff at Stage 5 but no character death is gated behind specific dialogue choices. The canon Team Cherry intent is preserved across all dialogue paths.
