What Is Nightwave?

Nightwave is Warframe's alternative to the original alert system, introduced to provide a consistent way to earn important cosmetics and resources that previously required catching time-limited alerts. Each Nightwave Series runs for a set period (typically several weeks) and features its own narrative audio from Nora Night — a mysterious radio DJ who assigns missions called Acts.

Completing Acts earns Nightwave Standing (experience), which fills a rank bar. Each completed rank grants 50 Nightwave Credits. These Credits are the currency for the Cred Offerings store, which rotates weekly and contains some of the most important resources in the game, including Nitain Extract, Forma, Aura mods, Orokin Catalysts, Warframe Helmet cosmetics, and more.

Between major Series, Warframe runs Nightwave: Intermission — a shorter, non-narrative version that still provides the same Acts and Credits system. Whether the current season is a Series or Intermission, the gameplay loop is the same.

How Nightwave Standing and Ranks Work

Each Nightwave rank requires a set amount of Standing to complete, starting at around 10,000 for the first rank and increasing slightly for each subsequent rank. Reaching a new rank immediately grants 50 Nightwave Credits. There are typically 30 ranks per Series, with ranks 1–10 being most impactful for valuable early rewards.

The Standing bar carries over from week to week — you do not lose progress. If you fall behind one week, you can catch up by completing more Acts the following week. The total number of possible Acts per week provides more than enough Standing to maintain maximum rank progression if completed consistently.

Note: Daily Acts reset every 24 hours regardless of whether you completed them. Missing daily acts means losing that Standing permanently. For dedicated players, checking in daily and completing the three Acts (usually 5–10 minutes of gameplay each) is the most consistent approach.

Best Cred Offerings to Prioritize

  • Nitain Extract (5 Credits each): Nitain is rare and only obtainable from Nightwave, Ghoul Purge bounties, or Corpus Ship Sabotage caches. Many Warframe and weapon blueprints require 2–10 Nitain. Buying Nitain from the Cred Offerings store whenever it appears is the easiest consistent source. Always purchase when available.
  • Forma Bundle (100 Credits for 3 Forma): Forma is endlessly valuable — every build optimization needs multiple. At 100 Credits per bundle (50 Credits per 3-day single Forma alternative), buying Forma bundles from Nightwave is excellent value.
  • Orokin Catalyst / Reactor (75 Credits each): These 'potatos' double weapon or Warframe mod capacity and are game-changing investments. Nightwave is one of the few non-Platinum sources.
  • Aura Mods (20 Credits each): Corrosive Projection, Growing Power, and Steel Charge are highly desirable aura mods that are otherwise obtained only from specific alert-like missions. Purchase any aura mod you do not already own.
  • Exilus Adapters (50 Credits each): Unlocks the Exilus slot on a Warframe. Pick these up when you have a specific use in mind.
  • Weapon and Warframe slots (30–50 Credits): These are valuable long-term if your inventory is near the slot cap. New players especially benefit.
  • Cosmetics (helmets, decorations): Only purchase after securing the functional items above. Cosmetics are purely aesthetic.

Most Efficient Acts to Complete

Not all Acts are equal in time investment. Daily Acts are typically short and designed to be completable in 5–15 minutes each: kill a certain number of enemies with headshots, complete a Capture mission, finish a mission in a specific location, etc. These should be done daily as they provide the most consistent Standing per week.

Elite Weekly Acts are the highest-value acts per completion. Examples include completing 10 Nightwave Acts total (meta-act), completing a Sortie, reaching a specific wave in Arbitrations, or completing a Steel Path mission. Even if these are challenging, the 7,000 Standing each is worth the effort — completing just the three Elite Weeklies each week provides 21,000 Standing that accelerates rank progression significantly.

Standard Weekly Acts vary more in time investment. Some, like 'complete 3 Bounties on Cetus,' take 10–15 minutes. Others, like 'complete 5 Synthesis scans,' are passive additions to normal gameplay. Identify the fastest Acts first and complete them before tackling time-intensive ones.

Nightwave Tips for New Players

  • Always check Daily Acts when you log in. Missing days compounds over time — consistent daily check-ins are more impactful than marathon weekly sessions.
  • Spend Credits on Nitain Extract first whenever it appears. Nitain is required for some of the most sought-after Warframes (Ash, Valkyr, Wukong, Inaros) and weapons.
  • Do not spend Credits on Endo or Credits (the in-game currency offered in the store). These are obtainable through many other methods and represent poor Nightwave Credit value.
  • Elite Weekly Acts are often reachable earlier than they seem. Many require simply progressing the story or completing content you were planning to do anyway.
  • Track current Nightwave acts in the Nightwave menu (top tab in the Navigation screen). Acts show progress bars and can be tracked to see at a glance what's remaining.
  • Cred Offerings rotate weekly — check the store each reset to see what is available. Some weeks offer Catalysts, others offer specific aura mods. Plan purchasing accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get Nightwave Credits in Warframe?

Complete Nightwave Acts (Daily, Weekly, and Elite Weekly) to earn Nightwave Standing. Reaching each new rank in the Nightwave system grants 50 Nightwave Credits. Spend these in the rotating Cred Offerings store.

What should I spend Nightwave Credits on?

Priority order: Nitain Extract (rare, required for many Warframes), Forma Bundles (always useful), Orokin Catalysts and Reactors (double mod capacity), Aura Mods (especially Corrosive Projection, Growing Power), Exilus Adapters, and weapon/Warframe slots. Avoid spending Credits on Endo or Credits — these are obtainable through better methods.

How long does each Nightwave Series last?

Major Nightwave Series typically run for 10–16 weeks depending on the season. Intermissions run for shorter periods between Series. Check the in-game Nightwave menu for the current season end date. Unspent Credits carry over between seasons.

What are Elite Weekly Acts?

Elite Weekly Acts are high-difficulty challenges that award 7,000 Nightwave Standing each — more than twice the value of standard Weekly Acts. They typically require completing challenging content like Sorties, Arbitrations, or high-wave Onslaught missions. Completing the Elite Weeklies each week is the fastest way to rank up in Nightwave.

Where do I see my Nightwave Acts?

Open the Navigation menu and select the Nightwave tab (the radio wave icon). The Acts list shows all available Daily, Weekly, and Elite Weekly challenges with progress bars. The Cred Offerings store is also in this menu.

Do Nightwave Credits expire?

Credits themselves do not expire and carry over between seasons. However, uncompleted Acts from a finished Series do expire when the season ends — their Standing is not awarded. Complete all available Acts before a Series ends to maximize your credits before the transition.
