AOE Weapons: Kuva Bramma and the Explosion Meta

The Kuva Bramma is one of the strongest primary weapons in Warframe and defined the AOE weapon meta upon release. It fires an arrow that detonates on impact or after a timed fuse, dealing massive area-of-effect damage in a large radius. The Kuva Bramma's explosion proc Viral and Slash simultaneously, applying the strongest damage combination in the game across clusters of enemies.

Kuva weapons are obtained by converting or vanquishing Kuva Liches — endgame enemies unlocked at MR 16. The Bramma requires multiple attempts to obtain with a desired elemental bonus (the highest bonus is 60% of an element added as extra damage). Top elemental bonuses for Bramma are Toxin (creating Corrosive with Electric) or Heat (creating Viral with Cold mods).

The Phenmor (obtained from Incarnon Genesis upgrades or Incarnon Adapters) is another strong AOE option. In Incarnon mode (activated by achieving headshots or kills), it transforms into a full-auto explosive rifle that fills rooms with projectile chains. More accessible than the Kuva Bramma for lower MR players.

Verdict: Phenmor (Incarnon) is the best all-rounder rifle when comparing base-game accessible weapons. Soma Prime remains a solid choice for players who want consistent performance without Incarnon investment.

Shotguns: Cedo and Tigris Prime

The Cedo is a Warframe shotgun designed around status effects. It fires multiple pellets, each with an extremely high status chance, and includes a secondary launcher that fires a disc dealing Slash damage. The combination of pellet status procs and disc Slash procs makes Cedo one of the best Condition Overload synergy weapons — it applies multiple unique statuses rapidly, amplifying melee weapon damage for frames that mix ranged and melee.

Tigris Prime is the opposite philosophy — a break-action double-barrel shotgun with tremendous single-shot burst damage. It deals two shots per reload with massive per-pellet damage values. Against single targets or small groups, Tigris Prime eliminates them in one or two shots. It requires careful aim and positioning since its magazine is only 2 rounds, but its damage ceiling is among the highest of any non-exotic shotgun.

For Steel Path where enemies have significantly increased health, the Cedo's sustained status application keeps Condition Overload values high across extended combat. Tigris Prime can struggle against Steel Path health pools unless combined with Headshot bonuses and crit mods. Cedo is generally more reliable in endgame content.

Best Bows in Warframe

  • Kuva Bramma — The AOE bow standard. High damage per shot plus explosion radius covers groups. Requires MR 8 and Kuva Lich system engagement. Best bow for general farming.
  • Dread — A classic farming bow accessible at MR 3. 80%+ Slash damage distribution with very high critical chance means Dread procs Slash bleed on nearly every crit. Exceptional for stealth missions where a single silent arrow eliminates a target.
  • Paris Prime — Solid mid-game bow with balanced stats and good Slash distribution. Farmable from Void Relics. Provides a stepping stone to more advanced bows.
  • Nataruk — A unique prime bow requiring no crafting (obtained from Plains of Eidolon fishing rewards and NPC). It fires a rapid arrow that deals innate Blast damage and procs a powerful charged shot. More accessible than Kuva Bramma.
  • Proboscis Cernos — A cluster-shot bow that fires multiple arrows in an arc. Good for spreading status effects across groups in a horizontal spread pattern. Fun playstyle but lower single-target DPS than dedicated bows.

Mod Priorities for Any Primary Build

  1. Serration (or Primed Serration) for flat damage — non-negotiable for any rifle build.
  2. Two 90% elemental mods to form your chosen combo (e.g., Viral via Cold + Toxin).
  3. Multishot — Split Chamber (rifles) or Hell's Chamber (shotguns) — roughly doubles output.
  4. Critical Delay or Point Strike + Vital Sense for crit weapons; Hunter Munitions for slash-conversion on crit weapons specifically.
  5. Galvanized mod for the weapon class once you have Arbitrations access — Galvanized Aptitude, Diffusion, etc. provides multiplicative status / damage boosts.
  6. An exilus mod such as Vigilante Supplies or Cautious Shot for AOE weapons that self-damage (relevant on Bramma-style explosives).

Frequently asked questions

What is the best primary weapon for beginners?

Soma Prime (acquired from Void Relics) or Braton Prime are excellent early-to-mid game primaries that perform well without heavy mod investment. For absolute beginners, the starting Mk-1 Braton is fine until you can farm or trade for a Soma Prime or Paris Prime.

Is the Kuva Bramma still meta?

Yes. The Kuva Bramma remains one of the strongest primary weapons for clearing groups. It received balance adjustments reducing its ammo efficiency, but its damage output still dominates AOE primaries. It requires MR 8 and engagement with the Kuva Lich system to obtain.

What primary weapon is best for Eidolon hunting?

Rubico Prime is the standard choice for Eidolon hunting. Its high critical chance, critical multiplier, and compatibility with the Lanka's alt-fire mechanic (Lanka is also excellent) make it the most efficient tool for hitting Eidolon Synovia weak points. Vectis Prime is an alternative for precision sniping.

How do I get Soma Prime?

Soma Prime's blueprint parts drop from Void Relics. Check the Void Relic Refinement station to find which current Relics contain Soma Prime parts, then run Fissure missions to crack them. Alternatively, purchase the complete set from other players via Warframe.market for around 40–70 Platinum.

What is the Dread and how do I get it?

The Dread is a bow that drops from the Stalker — an enemy assassin that spawns randomly in missions after you have defeated bosses. The Stalker has a chance to drop the Dread main blueprint. It cannot be bought with Platinum from the market and must be farmed from Stalker kills. It is also potentially acquired from other players via trading.
