Loki's Identity — Invisibility, Disarm, and Trolling
Loki is Warframe's stealth specialist and one of the original three Mastery Rank 0 alternative starter Warframes. His kit is built around Invisibility: a duration-based ability that makes Loki invisible to enemies and applies a melee stealth-finisher damage bonus to attacks against unaware enemies. Properly modded, Invisibility lasts more than 60 seconds per cast and costs very little energy, allowing near-permanent uptime in any mission.
His second signature ability is Radial Disarm — a room-wide effect that strips ranged weapons from every enemy in range, forcing them to switch to melee. Against most factions, this is functionally a complete neutralization. Grineer and Corpus ranged units become harmless melee chargers that take 4–6 seconds to walk into range, by which point you've moved on or finished them.
Loki's two utility abilities round out the kit. Decoy spawns a holographic clone that draws enemy fire and lasts a moderate duration. Switch Teleport swaps the position of Loki and a target — usable on enemies (great for pulling a guard out of a Spy vault camera cone) or on Decoy (positioning your distraction precisely). This is the kit that makes Loki the king of stealth content: Spy vaults and Rescue missions are solved by Loki faster and more reliably than by any other frame.
Mod Priority — What Matters Most
| Priority | Mod | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Narrow Minded | +99% duration, –66% range — the biggest single duration mod available |
| 2 | Primed Continuity | +55% duration; ranks faster than Narrow Minded and stacks additively |
| 3 | Constitution | +28% duration + faster knockdown recovery; cheap to slot |
| 4 | Stretch | +45% range; offsets Narrow Minded's range penalty for Disarm coverage |
| 5 | Overextended | +90% range, –60% strength — range is critical for Disarm; Loki doesn't need strength |
| 6 | Irradiating Disarm (Augment) | Radiation procs on disarmed enemies — turns them on each other |
| 7 | Streamline | +30% efficiency; reduces Disarm and Switch Teleport cost |
| 8 | Primed Flow | +275% energy pool; covers Disarm casts in long missions |

Ability Rotation — How to Pilot Loki
| Slot | Recommended pick | Why / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Mission Start | Cast Invisibility (2) | Activate before approaching the first enemy; sets up melee stealth finisher damage |
| Approach | Move freely, use melee for stealth finishers | Melee attacks from stealth deal large finisher multipliers; bring a finisher-capable melee (Skiajati, Glaive Prime) |
| Room Clear | Cast Radial Disarm (4) | Disarms all enemies in range; with Irradiating Disarm augment, they begin attacking each other |
| Spy Vault | Use Decoy + Switch Teleport on guards | Decoy distracts patrols; Switch Teleport repositions a guard out of a camera cone or alarm trigger zone |
| Rescue | Stay invisible, Switch Teleport hostage if needed | Switch Teleport on the rescue target moves them past gaps or obstacles instantly |
| Recast Cycle | Refresh Invisibility before the timer ends | With 60+ seconds duration, you only recast 1–2 times per minute |
| Emergency | Recast Invisibility immediately if hit out of stealth | Loki has 75 base shields and 100 base HP — one hit can kill him if Invisibility lapses |
Invisibility, Stealth Multipliers, and Melee Damage
Invisibility is more than just a 'don't see me' button. When enemies are unaware of you, melee attacks against them apply a stealth damage multiplier that ramps from 1.5x at the start of a stealth streak up to 8x after roughly 30 seconds of uninterrupted stealth kills. This is the highest damage multiplier in the game for melee — higher than Eclipse, higher than Roar, higher than Bladestorm. A modest melee weapon with 100,000 damage per swing on paper hits for 800,000 per swing under the maxed stealth multiplier.
The catch: the multiplier resets if any enemy becomes alerted, even briefly. Loki's permanent invisibility makes maintaining the stealth streak trivial — as long as you do not break invisibility, the multiplier stays. This is why Loki is the optimal frame for Sortie melee assassination targets and certain Steel Path eximus units that survive raw weapon fire. A single stealth-finisher swing of Glaive Prime or Nikana Prime delete them.
For melee weapons that synergize, prioritize fast-attack-speed swords or daggers — they apply more stealth multiplier ticks per second. Skiajati is a popular choice because it auto-triggers a small Invisibility refresh on finisher kill. Glaive Prime's throw attack still counts for stealth multiplier and lets you clear rooms from range while invisible.
Radial Disarm and the Irradiating Disarm Augment
Radial Disarm is Loki's ultimate, but its value isn't the damage (there is none) — it's the crowd disarm. Stripped enemies cannot fire ranged weapons. Grineer Lancers, Corpus Crewmen, and Infested ranged units (Lobbers, etc.) all switch to melee, which means they spend most of their time walking toward you instead of shooting. In a Defense or Mobile Defense mission, this almost completely shuts down enemy damage output.
The Irradiating Disarm augment adds Radiation status procs to every disarmed enemy. Radiation makes enemies attack their faction allies. Combined with Disarm's melee-only restriction, the result is a room of melee-only enemies stabbing each other instead of you. Whole waves of enemies kill themselves with zero input from you. This is the most powerful crowd control in the game in terms of input-to-output ratio.
Build for range to maximize the Disarm radius. With Stretch + Overextended + Cunning Drift, range exceeds 250%, covering the entire visible area of most tilesets in one cast. Strength penalties from Overextended (–60%) are irrelevant because Loki abilities do not scale with strength — Invisibility duration and Disarm range are the only stats that matter.
Loki vs. Ivara — Two Stealth Frames Compared
| Feature | Loki | Ivara |
|---|---|---|
| Stealth Type | Permanent invisibility (duration-based, fully mobile) | Prowl invisibility (slowed movement, channel cost per move) |
| Mobility During Stealth | Full sprint and parkour speed | Restricted to walking; sprint breaks stealth |
| Disarm / CC | Radial Disarm strips all enemy weapons in a wide radius | No equivalent ability |
| Loot Bonus | None innate | Prowl pickpockets enemies for free credits and items |
| Best Mission Types | Spy, Rescue, Sortie/Steel Path stealth, melee assassination | Spy, Rescue, Eidolon hunts, loot farming |
| Difficulty | Low — Invisibility plus Disarm covers most situations | Medium — channel management and Prowl restrictions |
| Acquisition | Hyena Pack on Neptune (mid-game, easy) | Quill standing + Cetus bounties (Plains of Eidolon, more grind) |
Verdict: Loki is the simpler and faster stealth frame — perfect for Spy, Rescue, and Sortie content where speed matters. Ivara is the more rewarding stealth frame for loot farming via Prowl and for Eidolon hunts via her ammo-converting Quiver. Pick Loki if you want raw stealth efficiency; pick Ivara if you want loot.
Common Loki Mistakes to Avoid
- Building ability strength: Loki's abilities do not scale with strength. Intensify, Blind Rage, and Umbral Intensify are all wasted slots. Build only into duration, range, and efficiency.
- Skipping the Irradiating Disarm augment: Vanilla Radial Disarm is fine, but the augment transforms it into the strongest faction-wide CC in the game. Buy it from Steel Meridian or Red Veil standing.
- Sprinting in Spy vaults: Loki's Invisibility hides him from enemies but does not hide footstep sounds in some tilesets. Walk through laser corridors and avoid triggering pressure-plate alarms even while invisible.
- Letting Invisibility lapse in combat: Loki's base HP is 100 and shields are 75. A single Grineer Bombard rocket deletes him if Invisibility is down. Always refresh Invisibility before the timer ends, not after.
- Wasting Switch Teleport on trivial targets: Switch Teleport is fastest used on Decoy (for repositioning) or on rescue hostages (to skip gaps). Using it to pull a single Lancer out of a doorway is energy-inefficient.
- Forgetting Decoy in solo Defense: Decoy spawns a clone with substantial aggro; it's a free distraction for cryopod defense missions. Use it to pull enemies off the objective while you finish them with stealth melee.
- Pairing with non-stealth squadmates in stealth content: If a squadmate sets off alarms in a Spy vault, Loki's invisibility doesn't undo the failure. Solo Spy and Rescue runs are faster and cleaner than pugs.
- Slotting Redirection or shield mods: Loki dies in one hit out of stealth regardless of shield investment. Build duration and accept the paper-thin HP.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get Loki in Warframe?
Loki's blueprint parts drop from the Hyena Pack assassination boss on Neptune (Psamathe node). The Hyena Pack drops his Neuroptics, Chassis, and Systems blueprints with reasonable rates — expect 6–10 runs to collect all three. The main blueprint is sold by Cephalon Simaris for 100,000 Simaris standing or available from Clan Dojo research. Loki Prime is also farmable from Void Relics if you want the upgraded version with more polarities, but base Loki performs identically in terms of ability function. Both are good Mastery Rank 0–5 acquisitions.
Does Loki's Invisibility break when I attack with guns?
No — attacking with weapons does not break Invisibility on Loki. This is different from Ivara's Prowl, which has restrictions. You can fire guns, throw glaives, cast abilities, and reload while invisible, and Invisibility persists for its full duration. The only thing that ends Invisibility early is the timer running out. This is what makes Loki the most flexible stealth frame — you do not need to manage stealth/combat separately, just keep the duration topped up.
Is Loki good for Steel Path?
Yes, with caveats. Loki is excellent for stealth Steel Path missions (Spy, Rescue, Capture, Sabotage) where avoiding enemies entirely is the play. Radial Disarm with Irradiating Disarm makes Defense and Mobile Defense missions trivial because enemies kill each other. Loki struggles in Disruption (need to break Demolyst armor fast — Loki has no damage buff) and in mission types that ignore stealth like Defection (escortee dies regardless of your invisibility). For Endurance Survival, you'll want a Helminth subsume like Roar or Eclipse to add personal damage scaling.
What is the best Helminth subsume for Loki?
Roar (from Rhino) is the most popular subsume for Loki — it adds a flat damage multiplier to weapons and abilities and pairs naturally with Loki's already-massive stealth melee multipliers. Eclipse (from Mirage) is a strong alternative because it provides both damage and damage reduction, partially offsetting Loki's paper-thin HP. Breach Surge (from Sevagoth) is a chaos option that adds AoE damage on ability cast. Subsume over Decoy — it is the weakest ability in his kit at high levels because Decoy's HP doesn't scale with enemies and dies quickly in Steel Path.
How does Loki compare to Ash for stealth gameplay?
Ash's Smoke Screen is a shorter Invisibility (8–18 seconds depending on build) but with a wider cast radius and a small AoE stun on cast. Loki's Invisibility is longer but only affects himself. Ash also has Teleport (instant repositioning) and Bladestorm (auto-finisher chains on multiple enemies), making him more damage-oriented. Loki is the pure stealth utility frame; Ash is the stealth-assassin hybrid. For Spy and Rescue, Loki is strictly better. For damage-focused stealth play, Ash competes.
Should I run Loki Prime instead of regular Loki?
Loki Prime has slightly higher base armor (15 vs 10), higher base shields (75 → 100), more energy (175 → 225), and one additional polarity slot. The kit and ability functions are identical. If you have Loki Prime relics available or can buy the set on Warframe.market for 50–100 platinum, it's a small upgrade. If you only have regular Loki, performance is functionally the same — Loki's strength is his kit, not his stats. Do not delay your stealth play just to chase Loki Prime drops.
Why is Loki so weak in HP? Should I tank-build him?
Loki is intentionally designed as a glass cannon — his survival is from Invisibility, not from HP. Tank-building Loki (Vitality, Steel Fiber, Adaptation) wastes slots that should go to duration mods. With permanent Invisibility, you never get hit, so HP doesn't matter. If you are getting hit, you are losing Invisibility uptime, and the fix is more duration mods, not more HP. The only HP-related mod worth considering is Vitality as a safety net for the brief moments between Invisibility recasts.
