Who Is Yagluth?

Yagluth is Valheim's fifth and most powerful Forsaken boss. He is an enormous ancient undead warlord — a skeletal giant with glowing green eyes who drags himself across the Plains with one massive arm, using his skeletal upper body to unleash fire and meteor attacks. He is several times larger than Bonemass and significantly more dangerous than any previous boss.

Reaching Yagluth requires surviving the Plains biome, which itself is arguably the most dangerous biome before defeating him. Fulings (goblin-like creatures) patrol in groups and can overwhelm unprepared players, Deathsquitos one-shot lightly armored Vikings, and Lox roam the open grasslands. Yagluth's power is reflective of this environment — he is meant to be the ultimate test of your late-game build.

Defeating Yagluth opens the door to the Mistlands biome (added in a later update) and provides the Yagluth Forsaken Power — a resistance to fire, poison, and lightning that is invaluable for the content that follows. His Torn Spirit drop functions as a crafting material for Mistlands-tier gear.

How to Find and Summon Yagluth

  1. Locate Yagluth's altar by reading Vegvisir runestones found inside Fuling Villages (stone towers with Fuling camps around them) or in Stone Monuments scattered across the Plains.
  2. Collect 5 Fuling Totems — dropped by Fuling Berserkers and Fuling Shamans in Plains Fuling camps. Fuling Berserkers are especially reliable Totem sources. Expect to raid multiple Fuling camps.
  3. Navigate to Yagluth's altar — an enormous circular stone formation with a giant skeleton arm monument in the center, surrounded by glowing runes.
  4. Place 5 Fuling Totems on the altar to begin the summoning ritual.
  5. Yagluth rises slowly from the ground amid a dramatic cutscene. Use this moment to activate all food buffs and Forsaken Powers before he is fully summoned.

Yagluth's Attack Patterns

  • Sweeping Fire Breath — Yagluth breathes a massive stream of fire that sweeps from one side to the other in a wide arc. The telegraph is him opening his jaw — sprint or roll perpendicular to the sweep direction. Fire Resistance Barley Wine significantly reduces this damage.
  • Meteor Fist Slam — He raises his fist and slams it into the ground, causing a ring of meteors to rain down in a radius around the impact point. Sprint away from the ring as soon as you see him wind up. The meteor ring has a clear visual tell — red glow on the ground where meteors will land.
  • Large AoE Fire Explosion — Yagluth charges briefly before releasing a massive fire explosion centered on himself that covers a very wide radius. When you see him gathering energy (green glow concentrating on his body), sprint maximum distance away immediately. This is his most lethal attack at close range.
  • Ground Slam Shockwave — A simpler slam attack that sends a shockwave across the ground. Roll to either side to avoid the linear shockwave path.

Fight Strategy

Yagluth is a fight that demands constant movement. Unlike Bonemass (sustained melee) or Moder (aerial/grounded phases), Yagluth's attacks cover large areas and reward stamina-heavy, evasive play. Keep your stamina bar above 50% at all times to ensure you can dodge his major attacks — running out of stamina mid-dodge is extremely dangerous.

Activate the Bonemass Forsaken Power before the fight for 50% physical resistance. Drink Fire Resistance Barley Wine immediately before the fight begins — it significantly reduces the damage from his fire breath and explosion attacks. Fire Resistance is the single most impactful defensive buff for this fight.

Use Frostner as your primary melee weapon — it applies Frost stacks that slow Yagluth and deal bonus cold damage (his weakness). Between melee windows, switch to a Draugr Fang with Frost Arrows to apply additional Frost from range. The fight will likely last 4–7 minutes — sustain your stamina and healing over this duration.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find Yagluth's altar in Valheim?

Yagluth's altar is located in the Plains biome. Read Vegvisir runestones in Fuling Villages (camps with Fuling enemies) or Stone Monuments across the Plains to reveal his altar location on the map. The altar is an unmistakable large circular stone formation with a giant stone arm sculpture at its center.

What are Fuling Totems and where do I get them?

Fuling Totems are items dropped by Fuling Berserkers and Fuling Shamans in Plains Fuling camps. You need 5 to summon Yagluth. Raid multiple Fuling Villages — each camp typically contains 2–5 Berserkers or Shamans. Bring Silver-tier or Black Metal weapons for efficient Fuling clearing.

What is Yagluth weak to?

Yagluth is weak to frost/cold damage. Frostner (a Silver-tier mace that applies Frost stacks) and Draugr Fang with Frost Arrows exploit this weakness. He is resistant to fire — do not use fire arrows against him.

How do I survive Yagluth's fire AoE?

Drink Fire Resistance Barley Wine before the fight — it dramatically reduces fire damage, making his sweeping fire breath and explosion attacks survivable. Activate Bonemass's Forsaken Power for physical resistance as a complement. Stay mobile and sprint away the moment you see him charging the large AoE explosion (green glow on his body).

What does Yagluth drop?

Yagluth drops the Yagluth Trophy (hang on Sacrificial Stones to unlock his elemental resistance Forsaken Power) and the Torn Spirit — a crafting material for Mistlands-tier gear. The Forsaken Power grants resistance to fire, frost, lightning, and poison damage.

Is Yagluth the final boss in Valheim?

As of 2026, Yagluth is not the final boss. The Mistlands update added The Queen as the sixth Forsaken boss. Yagluth remains the fifth boss in the intended progression order. Further bosses may be added as the game continues development toward its full 1.0 release.
