The optimal approach is to staircase down to floor 100+ in the first 30–40 minutes of the run, then start bombing and farming iridium nodes for the remaining time.

Each run in the Skull Cavern lasts until 2:00 AM in-game time, which translates to about 45–60 minutes of real-time play depending on pace. A full bomb run from floor 100 downward can break 200–400 nodes if you maintain a fast pace.

Optimal Iridium Run Loadout

• Mega Bombs: Craft or purchase as many as possible — each Mega Bomb breaks a large radius of nodes instantly, saving pickaxe energy and time. Aim for 20–40 per run.
• Regular Bombs: Use for smaller corridors where Mega Bombs would waste radius. Craft them from Iron Ore + Coal.
• Staircases: Carry 30–50 to skip non-iridium floors. Craft from 99 Stone each, or purchase from the Dwarf.
• Food: Spicy Eel (+1 Luck, +1 Speed) and Lucky Lunch (+3 Luck) are the best choices. Speed-boosting foods reduce run time meaningfully.
• Jade: Bring Jade to trade with the Desert Trader on Sundays for extra staircases (1 Jade = 1 Staircase) — this is the best way to accumulate staircases cheaply.
• Iridium Pickaxe: Essential for breaking iridium nodes in 1 hit rather than 3. Always upgrade your pickaxe to Iridium before serious farming runs.
• Ring Setup: Iridium Band (magnet + light + damage) plus Burglar's Ring (improves monster drops) is the best ring combination for ore farming runs.

Lucky Day Synergy — Why Luck Is Critical

Daily luck in Stardew Valley directly influences how many floors the Skull Cavern generates with shaft drops (multi-floor descents) and how many rare items drop from nodes. On a high-luck day (Spirit's Eve or TV-reported as 'very lucky'), shaft drops appear far more frequently, letting you descend 10–20 floors at a time instead of one at a time.

4. Begin bombing iridium nodes aggressively at floor 80–100 — use Mega Bombs for open areas.
5. Continue descending with a mix of staircases and floor clearing at iridium-rich levels.
6. At floor 100+, each floor cleared thoroughly can yield 3–8 iridium nodes. Prioritize visible nodes over clearing all stone.
7. Monitor your energy — eating food restores energy and buffs simultaneously. Staying active longer means more ore.
8. Exit by 1:50 AM to avoid passing out. Collect all ore before leaving.

• Trade Jade to the Desert Trader on Sundays for Staircases — far cheaper than crafting them.
• The Skull Cavern Invasion quest (Mr. Qi) forces you to reach floor 100 in one run — completing it improves your skills significantly.
• If you hit a Prehistoric Floor, fully clear it — these have elevated drop rates for rare items including Prismatic Shards.

Iridium Sprinkler Value — vs. Quality Sprinkler

Verdict: Iridium Sprinklers are unambiguously the best sprinkler in the game. The coverage-per-material ratio makes them worth the significant iridium investment — one Iridium Sprinkler replaces roughly 3 Quality Sprinklers. A full 4×6 greenhouse layout needs only 2 Iridium Sprinklers, while Quality Sprinklers would require 6+.
