Stardew Achievements — Tier of Difficulty

Achievement GroupExamplesTime Investment
Easy (Year 1)Greenhorn, Cowpoke, Homesteader, Skill 5 levelsYear 1 natural play
Medium (Year 2)Sous Chef, Ol' Mariner, Worker of the MinesYear 2 normal progression
Hard (Year 3+)Master Angler, Cook, Polyculture, Stardrop collection100+ hours focused effort
Hardest (Endgame)Walnut Room (130 walnuts), Joja achievement, Mastery 5200+ hours, multi-year saves

Year 1 — The Easy Tier

Most Year 1 achievements happen naturally. Greenhorn (earn 15,000g lifetime) triggers around Day 10–15. Cowpoke (50,000g) by Day 35–40. Homesteader (250,000g) by end of Year 1. Plant 50 trees by end of Year 1 (Tree Hugger achievement). The fishing-related early achievements (Mother Catch — catch 100 fish; Treasure Trove — find 23 artifacts) unlock through normal fishing.

Friendship achievements at 4+ hearts (A New Friend, Cliques) require basic gift-giving to villagers — easy by Spring 2 if you visit each villager twice per week with their loved gifts. The Cooking and Crafting achievements (Sous Chef = cook 25 recipes; Craftmaster = craft 30 items) progress organically through normal play.

Mining achievements: Singular You're (find every gemstone) and Treasure Trove (find 23+ artifacts) come from regular mining. Worker of the Mines (reach mine floor 120, the base mine) happens by Summer of Year 1 with focused mining. Skull Cavern Champion (1,000+ floors lifetime) is significantly harder and requires Iridium Sprinkler farming + dedicated runs.

Year 2 — Medium Tier Achievements

Year 2 unlocks the Community Center bundle achievements (Local Legend = complete CC; Joja Co. = complete Joja path; both achievements separately can be done across two saves). The Community Center path is recommended for most players — Joja achievement requires playing through 5 years of Joja Co. mart membership and is the more grindy alternative.

Income achievements: Millionaire (1M lifetime gold) by Year 2 with greenhouse + ancient fruit. Legend (10M lifetime gold) is end-game — requires ancient fruit wine, kegs production, and Ginger Island banana farming. The 10M target is the largest lifetime-income goal in the game.

Fishing — Mother Catch is 100 fish (easy in 1 year). Ol' Mariner (catch every fish in a specific category) starts mid-Year 1 if you fish weekly. Master Angler (catch EVERY fish in the game, 100+ species) is the largest single achievement.

Hardest Achievements — The Endgame Grind

Master Angler — catch every fish in the game. Includes seasonal fish (some only available in 1 specific season), weather-dependent fish (some only in rain, others only in storms), legendary fish (5 unique fish each requiring specific bait/location/conditions), and 5 secret fish from various locations. Plan for 50+ in-game hours of focused fishing across multiple seasons.

Cook — cook every recipe in the game. There are 90+ recipes total including TV-channel recipes (weekly cooking show on Tuesdays at 8AM), villager gifts (recipes given as friendship rewards), shop purchases (Stardrop Saloon at heart 5+), and rare drops (Magic Rock Candy from specific events). Track which you've cooked via the in-game collection screen.

Polyculture — ship 15 of each crop in the game (15 of each fruit, 15 of each vegetable, including ancient fruit and special crops like starfruit). 'Each' is the tricky word — there are 50+ unique crops. Building a comprehensive farm with all crops across all seasons takes Year 2–3 to complete.

Walnut Room (Ginger Island) — collect 130 Golden Walnuts. Walnuts are scattered across Ginger Island in various tasks: mining, fishing, treasure chests, secret rooms. The 130 target is the largest single completion goal in the game and unlocks the secret Walnut Room in Qi's complex. Plan for 30+ in-game hours of Ginger Island exploration.

Achievement Paths — Efficiency Comparison

ApproachSteam AchievementsIn-Game TrophiesBest For
Quick run (1 year achievements only)~15 achievementsLimitedCasual one-save play
2-3 year run (Year 3 endgame complete)~28 achievementsMost milestoneStandard completion player
Multi-year (Master Angler + Cook)~35 achievementsAll major milestonesCompletionist player
Full 100% (Walnut Room + Polyculture + Mastery 5)All 40 achievementsAll trophiesHardcore completionist

Verdict: Most players target the 28-achievement tier (Year 2-3 endgame). Pushing to 100% requires committing to Master Angler + Cook + Polyculture + Walnut Room over 4-5 in-game years. The grind from 35 to 40 achievements alone takes 50+ hours.

Mastery Cave Achievements (1.6 Patch)

Patch 1.6 added the Mastery Cave system — a new endgame progression tier reaching Mastery 5 in each skill (Farming, Foraging, Mining, Fishing, Combat). The Mastery achievements are some of the longest in the game and require post-Year-4 dedicated grinding.

Mastery 5 in each skill: requires hitting Skill 10 first, then completing the Mastery Cave book of recipes and unique items. Mastery in Farming = unlock the Master Statue (boosted crop quality). Mastery in Foraging = wood/stone harvested converted to higher-tier outputs. Mastery in Mining = double ore drops. Mastery in Fishing = treasure chest spawn chance doubled. Mastery in Combat = melee weapon enchantments unlocked.

How to grind Mastery: keep playing the relevant skill activity. Farming Mastery requires harvesting ~5,000–10,000 crops post-Skill-10. Fishing Mastery requires ~3,000 fish caught post-Skill-10. Mining requires ~10,000 ores. These are background goals that complete over Year 5+ play.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to get 100% achievements in Stardew Valley?

Approximately 200–400 in-game hours over 4–6 in-game years. The Cook and Master Angler achievements alone take 50+ hours each. Walnut Room is 30+ hours. Mastery 5 across all skills is 50+ hours. Most players complete 28–32 achievements naturally in Year 3–4; pushing to 40 requires deliberate completionist effort.

Can I get the Joja Co. and Local Legend achievements in the same save?

No — they are mutually exclusive in one save. You must choose Joja or Community Center path. To get both achievements requires two separate saves. Most players play CC route (the 'good ending'), then run a quick Joja save for the second achievement (or use mods to skip the lengthy second playthrough).

What's the fastest way to earn 10 million gold (Legend achievement)?

Ancient Fruit Wine. Plant ancient fruit on Greenhouse + farm — each ancient fruit ages into wine worth 1,650–3,300g per bottle (with Artisan profession). 200+ casks of aging ancient fruit wine, harvested over multiple weeks, will push you to 10M faster than any other production. Pair with Crystalarium for diamonds (5k each, free passive income), bee houses, and farm-side starfruit batches.

How do I catch the Legendary fish?

The 5 Legendary fish (Crimsonfish, Glacierfish, Mutant Carp, Legend, Angler) each have specific spawn conditions. Crimsonfish: ocean east of beach, Spring/Summer, requires Fishing 8+ skill. Glacierfish: lake on map, Winter. Mutant Carp: sewer fish (Skill 10+ via Krobus encounter). Legend: lake in spring, requires Fishing 10. Angler: river east of Pelican Town in fall (year 2+).

Is the Walnut Room achievement worth the grind?

Yes — unlocks the secret Walnut Room with the unique Qi's Hat (cosmetic) and the Calico Statuettes (cosmetic). The room itself unlocks Qi's Special Orders, which are seasonal time-limited tasks with unique rewards (Burglar's Ring, Lucky Ring, Iridium Snake Milk recipe — strong items). For collectors, Walnut Room is mandatory. For purely gameplay-focused players, the rewards are nice but not essential.

Can I track my Mastery progress in the game?

Yes — open Skills menu (S key) and Mastery progress for each skill is shown at the right of each skill bar. Once you hit Skill 10, the Mastery progression begins. The Mastery Cave (accessible from the bus stop) shows the recipe book and current standings. Mastery levels 1–5 unlock unique items, recipes, and bonuses for each skill.

What's the best multiplayer strategy for achievements?

Multiplayer saves share achievement progress across all players. Cooperation helps with shared goals — Polyculture (each player ships their crops to the shared count), Master Angler (each player can catch different fish), Cook (each cook recipe by any player counts). 4-player multiplayer can complete 100% achievements in ~150 hours combined vs ~400 hours solo. Coordinate roles: one player focuses Fishing, one Farming, one Mining, one Foraging/Cooking.

Do achievements transfer between save files?

Steam achievements unlock once earned in any save file and remain in your Steam library forever. In-game stats (gold earned, fish caught, etc.) are per-save. If you start a new save, the in-game stats reset but Steam achievements stay. Use this for testing/messing around in additional saves without losing achievement progress.
