Cranberries — The Fall Income Staple

Cranberries are the Blueberries of Fall — the go-to multi-harvest crop that generates steady income throughout the season. Each plant yields two berries per harvest every 5 days after the initial 7-day maturation. Planted on Fall Day 1, a single plant harvests on Days 7, 12, 17, 22, and 27 — five harvests, ten berries, 750g gross per plant minus 240g seed cost = 510g profit per tile.

The downside versus Blueberries: Cranberry seeds cost 240g (vs 80g for Blueberries) and sell for only 75g per berry vs 50g for Blueberries. The seed cost is the main constraint — in early Year 1 Fall, you may not have enough gold to fill your farm with Cranberries. Prioritize Cranberries on your largest fields and use cheaper crops (Eggplant at 20g, Bok Choy at 50g) for Community Center bundles on remaining tiles.

For artisan use, Cranberries are borderline between Kegs and Jars. At 75g base value (below the 216g break-even), Preserves Jars are technically better — Cranberry Jelly is 200g vs Cranberry Wine at 225g. The difference is small; if all your Jars are busy, routing Cranberries to spare Kegs is fine.

Pumpkins — Premium Quality Crop

Pumpkins are Fall's highest per-unit value crop at 320g base (352g with Tiller). They don't regrow, so you only harvest once per season. Planted on Day 1, Pumpkins harvest on Day 14, leaving time for one more planting (Day 15) that harvests on Day 28 if done quickly. Two plantings yield 640g gross per tile minus 200g seed cost = 440g profit — lower than Cranberries on raw income, but Pumpkins have advantages.

Pumpkin Juice from a Keg sells for 960g (1,344g with Artisan), which significantly exceeds the Cranberry Wine value. If you have spare kegs, routing Pumpkins through them produces excellent artisan income. Pumpkins also have a higher chance for Gold-quality output than most crops, and they're one of the few crops with a Giant Crop mechanic — plant them in 3×3 grids and they occasionally merge into a Giant Pumpkin worth 15–21 crops on harvest.

Pumpkins are needed for the Fall Crops Community Center bundle, making them mandatory to plant regardless of profit calculations. Grow at least four Pumpkins for bundle needs and supplement remaining field space with Cranberries for best overall Fall income.

Fall Crops Head-to-Head

CropNet Profit/Tile (Season)Keg Wine ValueJar ValueBest Use
Cranberry (5 harvests)~510g225g/wine200g/jellyRaw sell + Jars
Pumpkin (2 harvests)~440g960g/juice (Keg!)690g/picklesKegs — excellent juice value
Grape (7+ harvests)~340g240g/wine (336g Artisan)210g/jellyKegs if spare; Jars otherwise
Yam (2 harvests)~260g480g/juice370g/picklesJars — bundle + decent pickles value
Amaranth (3+ harvests)~220g450g/juice350g/picklesJars — cheap, decent volume
Sweet Gem Berry~2,000g+N/A (too rare)N/AGive to Old Master Cannoli statue for Stardrop

Verdict: Cranberries win for raw/jar income due to their multi-harvest advantage. Pumpkins win for Keg processing due to the high juice value. Grow both: Cranberries as primary income and Pumpkins routed to Kegs for artisan production.

Grapes and the Vineyard Strategy

Grapes are often overlooked as a Fall crop, but they have an interesting property: they regrow every 3 days after the initial 10-day maturation, making them one of Fall's fastest-regrowth crops. Planted Day 1, they harvest on Days 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28 — seven harvests per plant. At 80g per bunch × 7 = 560g gross minus 60g seed cost = 500g profit per tile.

This makes Grapes surprisingly competitive with Cranberries on a raw sell basis, while costing 240g less per seed. The Grape wine value (240g regular, 336g Artisan) is below the Cranberry Jelly value (200g), so Jars are the artisan choice for Grapes. If you have free Preserves Jars, routing Grapes through them adds meaningful income over raw selling.

Grapes also produce naturally in the wild during Fall — you can forage them in the forest area for the Fall Foraging bundle. Wild Grapes count for the bundle, saving you the cost of planting any specifically for that purpose.

Sweet Gem Berry — The Special Case

  • Sweet Gem Berry seeds are sold by the Traveling Merchant for 1,000g each (rare appearance) or grown from a Rare Seed.
  • The crop takes 24 days to grow and sells for 3,000g — the highest raw sell price in the game.
  • More importantly: giving one Sweet Gem Berry to the Old Master Cannoli statue in the Secret Woods rewards a Stardrop, permanently increasing max energy by 34.
  • Sweet Gem Berry seeds do not appear in any store reliably — keep an eye out on Fridays and Sundays when the Traveling Merchant visits.
  • Not worth processing in Kegs or Jars due to its rarity — sell raw or use for the Stardrop.

Fall Crops Community Center Bundle Checklist

  • Corn (Eggplant, Pumpkin, Yam bundle — Corn also grows in Summer; no need to re-plant if you started in Summer)
  • Eggplant (cheapest Fall bundle crop at 20g per seed — grow at least one)
  • Pumpkin (bundle required — 100g seed, plant Day 1 for two potential harvests)
  • Yam (60g seed — 10-day crop, one harvest per season, used in Fall Crops bundle)
  • Quality Crops bundle: need 5× Gold Pumpkin, 5× Gold Melon (Summer), 5× Gold Parsnip (Spring), 5× Gold Corn — use Quality Fertilizer for higher gold-quality rates

Frequently asked questions

Are Cranberries better than Pumpkins in Fall?

Cranberries are better for raw income due to multi-harvest. Pumpkins are better for keg processing (960g juice). The ideal strategy is to grow both: Cranberries as primary income and Pumpkins for keg routing.

What is the best Fall crop for the Artisan profession?

Pumpkin Juice (Artisan: 1,344g per keg) is the best Fall artisan product. Grape Wine (Artisan: 336g) and Cranberry Jelly (Artisan: 280g) are solid secondary options.

Can I get Grape seeds without buying them?

Yes — Grapes grow wild in the Cindersap Forest during Fall as forageable items. You can also use a Seed Maker on foraged Grapes to get Grape Seeds for free, then plant them next Fall.

What is the Sweet Gem Berry used for?

The Sweet Gem Berry's most important use is giving it to the Old Master Cannoli statue in the Secret Woods to receive a Stardrop (permanent +34 max energy). It also sells for 3,000g raw — the highest raw crop sell price in the game.

Should I plant Corn in Summer or Fall?

Plant Corn in Summer Day 1 — it grows through both Summer and Fall without stopping. This gives you the most harvests per seed investment since Corn regrows every 4 days across both seasons.
