PoE 2 Atlas Passive Tree Guide — Best Nodes for Currency Farming

How the Atlas Passive Tree Works

The Atlas Passive Tree is unlocked in the endgame after completing the final Act and gaining access to the Map Device. Unlike the character passive tree, Atlas passives are account-wide (per character) and are allocated using Orbs of Unmaking to refund. Each passive point comes from completing Waystones (maps) at each tier — you gain one passive point per unique Waystone completion.

The Atlas tree is divided into several major clusters: a central hub of map sustain and quantity nodes, and surrounding clusters dedicated to each league mechanic (Breach, Ritual, Expedition, Delirium, Breach, Sanctum, etc.). Specializing deeply into one mechanic cluster is dramatically more efficient than allocating points broadly across multiple mechanics.

Unlike PoE 1's Atlas, PoE 2's Atlas tree includes a 'Wandering Path' keystone that increases map drop chance but prevents you from allocating any other connected passives in that branch — a high-risk, high-reward commitment to pure map sustain over mechanic density.

Core Sustain Nodes — Allocate First

  1. Cartographer's Delight (3 nodes) — Waystones found in maps have a chance to be one tier higher. Essential for progression and sustain.
  2. Singular Focus — Waystone drop chance is significantly increased in maps that match your Atlas. Pair with a focused map strategy.
  3. Master Cartographer — Waystone drops are guaranteed to be of the highest tier in the completion range. Reduces dependency on trading for maps.
  4. Plentiful Bounty — Increases the number of magic and rare monsters in maps. More rares = more loot and better mechanic spawns.
  5. Wandering Path (keystone) — If you are exclusively map farming without league mechanics, this keystone maximizes raw map sustain but locks out other passive branches.

Top League Mechanic Clusters for Currency

SanctumSanctum Records → Gold → Unique relics8-10 nodesUnique item farming; high-skill content

Verdict: Ritual and Breach are the two most universally recommended clusters for currency farming. Ritual produces Divine Orbs via Vessels. Breach produces dense Chaos Orb income from Splinter sales. Pick one based on your preferred playstyle.

Breach Farming — Best Atlas Cluster

The Breach cluster is consistently rated as the top atlas investment for efficient currency farming. Each Breach event spawns a dense mob encounter that drops Breach Splinters — combine 100 Splinters of one type to create a Breachstone, which is a high-value item consumable or sellable for Chaos Orbs. The Breach atlas cluster increases the chance of Breaches spawning in your maps, adds additional hands (Breach spawners), and boosts the drop rate of Splinters from each hand killed.

Key Breach nodes to prioritize: Breached Ground (+2 additional Breach hands per map), Breach Commander (Breachstones drop with additional benefits), and Cracked Open (bonus splinter drops from hands). With 10-12 Atlas points in Breach, every tier-10+ map reliably spawns 2-3 Breach encounters, generating consistent Splinter income that converts to 5-15 Chaos Orbs per hour of play at medium tier maps.

Breach works best when combined with high-AoE, fast-clearing builds because Breach encounters are time-limited — the Breach portal closes after 10 seconds and every kill extends the timer. Builds that kill monsters quickly maximize hands killed and therefore Splinters dropped.

Ritual Farming — Best for Divine Orbs

Ritual encounters generate Tribute points spent at the Ritual Altar interface. At the Altar, you can purchase items (often rare items at discounted Tribute), Ritual Vessels (storable Tribute for future encounters), and occasionally Orbs of Unmaking. The Ritual atlas cluster increases Tribute gain, boosts the chance of encountering Ritual Altars, and improves the shop item quality.

Divine Orbs appear in the Ritual shop at a rate that justifies the investment — with 10 points in the Ritual cluster, players typically see 1-3 Divine Orb listings per hour of active Ritual farming in tier 14-15 maps. Combined with the map sustain nodes, this produces reliable Divine Orb income without requiring pinnacle boss kills.

The Ritual cluster pairs especially well with low-mobility boss builds (Titan Warrior, etc.) because Ritual encounters are stationary — you activate altars and fight waves of spawned monsters in a fixed arena. Speed is less important than raw damage throughput.

Frequently asked questions

How do I unlock Atlas Passive Tree points?

You gain one Atlas passive point for each unique Waystone (map) you complete for the first time. There are enough unique Waystones across all tiers to generate 100+ points. You do not need to complete every map — reach the total point count you need by running maps and completing new ones as they appear.

Can I refund Atlas Passive Tree nodes?

Yes. Use Orbs of Unmaking (obtainable from maps, Ritual shops, and trade) to refund individual Atlas passive nodes. There is no penalty for respeccing other than the Orb cost. It is common to refund the entire atlas tree when switching farming strategies.

What is the Wandering Path keystone?

Wandering Path is an Atlas keystone that dramatically increases the quantity of Waystones found in maps but prevents you from allocating passives in connected branches. It is best used when map sustain is your only goal and you are not farming a specific mechanic. Running it alongside league mechanic clusters is not possible due to the connection restriction.

Which league mechanic gives the most currency per hour?

Breach consistently ranks highest for raw currency per hour because Splinters are universally tradeable and Breachstones are in constant demand. Ritual produces higher single-session value (Divine Orbs) but with more variance. The 'best' mechanic also depends on your build's map speed and ability to handle each encounter type.

Should I do Delirium from the start of endgame?

No. Delirium significantly increases monster damage and density, which can be lethal for undergeared characters. Start with Breach or Ritual (lower difficulty, steady income) and switch to Delirium once your build can comfortably survive the increased danger. Delirium scales to offer the highest rewards but demands much higher survivability.
