How Pal Spheres Capture Work

Pal Sphere capture rate = (Pal's base catch rate) × (Sphere multiplier) × (HP penalty factor). The base catch rate is set per Pal (rarer Pals = lower base rate). Sphere multiplier ranges from 1x (Pal Sphere) to 32x (Legendary). The HP penalty factor scales: full-HP Pals are very hard to catch (~10% effective rate); low-HP Pals are much easier (~80% effective rate).

Strategy: weaken the Pal first to <30% HP using combat (your own attacks or your party Pal's attacks). At <30% HP, even a Mega Sphere has a 60-70% catch rate. At <10% HP, almost any Sphere works.

Status effects help: applying Sleep, Confusion, or Stagger to the Pal increases catch chance further. Combine: weaken to <20% HP + apply Sleep = ~95% catch chance with even a Mega Sphere.

Wasted Spheres: throwing Spheres at high-HP Pals wastes them. Each Sphere thrown that fails to capture is gone. Pre-fight: ensure you have appropriate Spheres for the Pal's tier (don't use Pal Spheres on Lv30+ Pals; failure rate is too high).

Crafting Pal Spheres — Material Sources

Pal Sphere (basic): Palium (mined from low-Mineral nodes) + Wood + Stone. Easy to make in bulk early game. A starter Bench can craft 50+ Pal Spheres in a single play session.

Mega Sphere: requires Pal Fluid (drops from low-tier Pals, especially aquatic ones). Pal Fluid is moderately rare — stockpile from grinding low-tier areas. Each Mega Sphere consumes 1 Pal Fluid.

Giga Sphere: requires Carbon Fibers (refined Carbon from Carbon Fiber Maker, tech unlock at Lv16). Need 10+ Carbon per craft. Mid-tier sphere requires significant resource investment.

Hyper Sphere: requires Polymer (refined Polyethylene from Polymer Producer, tech unlock at Lv28). Late-game crafting. Each Hyper sphere is meaningful resource investment.

Ultra Sphere: requires Pal Soul (drops from Tower bosses or specific mob types). Very rare. Ultra Spheres are end-game capture tools for the highest-rarity Pals.

Legendary Sphere: requires both Pal Soul + Legendary Pal Item (drops from specific Tower bosses). Used only for Legendary Pals like Jetragon. Each Legendary Sphere costs 1 Pal Soul + 1 Legendary item — significant investment.

Sphere Stockpiles by Progression Stage

Lv 1-15 (Early): stockpile 100+ Pal Spheres. Cheap to make from Palium + Wood + Stone. Use for the abundant low-level Pals. Capture multiples of each Pal type for stat IV optimization (breeding later).

Lv 15-30 (Mid): stockpile 50+ Mega Spheres + 20+ Giga Spheres. Mega for common Pals; Giga for the harder catches. Plan ahead — make 100 Mega Spheres before tackling Lv25 zone Pals.

Lv 30-45 (Mid-Late): stockpile 30+ Giga + 20+ Hyper. Mid-tier Pals require these. Boss captures (Pal Towers) typically need 5+ Hyper Spheres per attempt.

Lv 45-50 (Endgame): stockpile 20+ Hyper + 10+ Ultra. Reserved for end-game boss captures (Frostallion, Suzaku, Jetragon, Jormuntide).

Lv 50+ (Post-game): focus on Ultra and Legendary Spheres. Used only for re-catching specific bosses for breeding/stat optimization. Don't bother crafting Ultra/Legendary spheres for non-boss Pals.

Sphere Tier vs Pal Difficulty Matchup

Pal LevelRecommended SphereNotes
Lv 1-10 (common)Pal SpherePal Sphere x1 is enough for low-level captures
Lv 10-20 (common-medium)Pal/Mega SphereMega for slightly rarer specimens
Lv 20-30 (medium)Mega/Giga SphereGiga for the harder catches; Mega for common
Lv 30-40 (medium-rare)Giga/Hyper SphereHyper for the rarer Pals at this tier
Lv 40-50 (rare/boss)Hyper/Ultra SphereBoss captures (Tower fights) need Hyper or Ultra
Lv 50+ (legendary)Ultra/Legendary SphereJetragon, Frostallion, etc. require Legendary

Verdict: Match Sphere tier to Pal difficulty. Don't waste Ultra Spheres on common Pals; don't try Pal Spheres on bosses. The right tier per situation is the most efficient capture strategy.

Boss Capture Strategy

Tower Bosses (Lv30, Lv40, Lv50): each Tower is a fight with a unique boss Pal. The boss has high HP and defenses. To capture, weaken to <30% HP first using your party Pals' attacks. The boss's HP bar shows when you're in capture range.

Recommended capture sphere by Tower level: Tower 1 (Lv20-30) = Giga + 5 Hyper backups; Tower 2 (Lv30-40) = Hyper + 5 Ultra backups; Tower 3 (Lv40-50) = Ultra + 5 Legendary backups.

Bring 10-15 of your chosen sphere tier per boss attempt. Sometimes you'll throw 5-10 spheres before the boss is captured (or you fail and restart the fight). Don't underestimate the resource cost of boss captures.

Pre-fight prep: ensure you have the best status effects (Sleep, Confusion items from cooking pots). Apply them before throwing capture spheres. This boost can mean the difference between 1-sphere capture and 10-sphere capture attempts.

Pal Sphere Efficiency Tips

  • Weaken before throwing: <30% HP is the magic threshold. Use party Pals + your own weapons.
  • Apply Sleep status: Snooze (sold by Pal Specialist) or in-game items add sleep effect, boosting capture rate.
  • Don't waste Spheres on full-HP Pals: failed throws return zero Spheres.
  • Match Sphere tier to Pal level: Pal Sphere x1 on a Lv40 Pal will fail nearly every time.
  • Stockpile in bulk: craft 100+ Pal Spheres in advance for grinding sessions.
  • Save Ultra/Legendary for true bosses: Lv50 Jetragon/Frostallion are the only Pals worth a Legendary Sphere.
  • Catch multiples of the same Pal: stats vary; capture 5-10 of each Pal type to find the best IV passives.
  • Breeding optimization: a single high-IV captured Pal can produce many higher-IV offspring.
  • Tower farming: re-fight Tower bosses for repeated boss captures (multiple Frostallions, multiple Jetragons for breeding).
  • Pal Specialist sells rare materials: stop at the Pal Specialist NPC for Pal Soul and Legendary items if you're missing them.

Frequently asked questions

What's the best Sphere to use for capturing common Pals?

Pal Sphere (basic). Common Pals have high catch rates with basic spheres. Don't waste Mega/Giga spheres on common Pals — save those for the rarer captures. Pal Sphere x1 is the optimal cost-per-capture for Lv1-15 Pals.

When should I use Legendary Spheres?

Reserved for true Legendary Pals: Jetragon (Lv50 boss), Frostallion (Lv50 boss), Suzaku (Lv50 boss), Jormuntide (Lv50 boss). Don't use Legendary Spheres on Lv30 mid-tier Pals — Ultra or Hyper is sufficient and cheaper. Save your Legendary stockpile for the boss fights.

Can I craft Pal Spheres in bulk?

Yes — the Workbench supports bulk crafting via the 'Craft x' option. Set quantity to 10, 20, or 50 in one click. The workbench takes time to process (each Sphere ~1-2 seconds craft time). Set up 2-3 workbenches in parallel for faster bulk crafting.

Do I need to weaken Pals before capturing?

Strongly recommended. At full HP, capture rates are very low (~5-15% even with Hyper Spheres). At <30% HP, rates jump to ~60-70%. At <10% HP, rates approach 90%+. Always weaken with your party Pals before throwing your capture Sphere. Status effects (Sleep, Confusion) further boost capture rates.

What's the rarest Sphere?

Legendary Sphere is the rarest by crafting requirement (Pal Soul + Legendary Pal Item). Stockpile 5-10 Legendary Spheres for endgame boss captures. The materials are obtained only from Tower bosses or Pal Specialist NPCs — not from regular gameplay.

Can I trade or sell Pal Spheres?

Yes — Pal Spheres can be sold to merchants (low value) or traded between players in multiplayer. The crafting cost vs sell value isn't favorable; you're usually better off using them than selling. Trading with friends is more valuable than vendor selling.

How many Spheres should I bring to a boss fight?

10-15 of your chosen tier (Hyper for Tower 2 bosses; Ultra for Tower 3 bosses). Sometimes captures take 1 sphere; sometimes 10. Bring buffer. If you run out and the boss escapes, you have to restart the fight from the beginning.

Are there any special Spheres for specific Pal types?

No type-specific Spheres in Palworld. The tier system is universal — Pal/Mega/Giga/Hyper/Ultra/Legendary work for any Pal. Type advantages (Fire-type vs Grass-type Pals) affect combat, not capture mechanics. Catch rates depend on Pal rarity and your Sphere tier match, not elemental matchup.
