KCD2 DLC Roadmap FAQ — Brushes With Death, Legacy of the Forge, Mysteria

What Warhorse announced at launch
At KCD2's launch announcement event in January 2026, Warhorse Studios revealed a 3-DLC roadmap stretching across 2026-2027. The DLCs are sold separately OR via a $35 Season Pass that bundles all three. Buying separately would cost $47 ($15 + $12 + $20), so the Season Pass saves $12 — a 25% discount.
All three DLCs are story+content add-ons. None of them rebalance the base game or add features that require updating existing saves. They add new quest lines, new regions or zones, and new gear/recipes — playable from saves made in the original campaign as long as you've reached the relevant chapter.
Warhorse confirmed no 'pay-to-win' content. The DLC gear is sidegrade-tier (interesting build options, not strictly better than base-game options). The DLC quests are optional and gate-locked behind specific main-story progression points.

Brushes With Death — story DLC (Q3 2026)
Brushes With Death follows Henry's painter friend Vavra (different from the Trosky charcoal burner) as he becomes entangled in a Kuttenberg-area conspiracy. Vavra commissioned to paint a portrait of a noble who is then murdered the night the painting is finished. Henry investigates whether Vavra is guilty or framed.
Length: 8-12 hours of new quest content. Gating: requires completing the main story through chapter 3 (mid-Kuttenberg progression). Once unlocked, the DLC's quest line auto-adds to your journal and is fully optional.
Notable features: 2 new sub-regions of Kuttenberg (the Painter's Quarter and the Northern Catacombs), 5 new dialogue choices that affect Vavra's outcome (he can live or die based on your investigation accuracy), and a new 'Investigator' skill tree branch with 4 perks that pair with Speech and Thievery.
Price: $15 standalone. Worth it for the new region and 4-5 hours of high-quality side content; Warhorse's previous DLC pricing on KCD1 (From The Ashes was $10 for 5-10 hours) suggests this is fairly priced.
Legacy of the Forge — blacksmith expansion (Q4 2026)
Legacy of the Forge focuses on Henry's blacksmith heritage. It expands the existing Forging the Future main quest with a new Trosky forge zone where Henry inherits his father's old smithy and unlocks legendary-tier recipes.
Length: 5-8 hours of new content. Gating: requires completing the base game's Forging the Future main quest (chapter 2 mid-point). After unlocking, you can craft the 12 new legendary recipes including the 'Father's Hammer' weapon set, the 'Sigismund's Sword' replica, and 'Knight's Plate' armor set.
Notable features: new sub-zone (Father's Forge near Trosky), 12 new legendary weapon/armor recipes, a new perk in the Craftsmanship tree (Master Smith — +50% legendary recipe success rate), and a small story arc about Henry's father's reputation in the smithing community.
Price: $12 standalone. Most affordable of the three DLCs. Worth it for the Blacksmith Henry build specifically — the 12 new recipes meaningfully extend the build's late-game viability.
Mysteria — occult side-stories (Q1 2027)
Mysteria is the largest of the three DLCs — three interconnected mystery cases that explore the occult side of 15th-century Bohemia. Each case is ~5-7 hours of standalone investigation work, but the three cases share a connecting thread that reveals at the conclusion of the third.
Length: 15-20 hours total. Gating: requires completing the base game's main story (any ending). Mysteria unlocks as 'post-game' content rather than mid-game, ensuring Henry has reached his peak skills before tackling the toughest cases.
The three cases are: 'The Witch of Suchdol' (folklore investigation, focus on Speech and Alchemy), 'The Alchemist's Will' (philosophical mystery, focus on Reading and Charisma), and 'The Black Mass' (occult conspiracy, focus on Stealth and Combat). The third case unlocks after completing the first two and ties them together.
Price: $20 standalone — the most expensive of the three. Justified by length: $1/hour ratio puts it on par with the base game's value-per-hour. The occult themes are a departure from KCD2's medieval realism, which may be polarising — some players will love the genre shift, others will find it jarring.
DLC pricing and value comparison
| DLC | Price | Length | Price per hour | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Brushes With Death | Brushes With Death | $15 | 8-12 hours (avg 10) | $1.50/hour |
| Legacy of the Forge | Legacy of the Forge | $12 | 5-8 hours (avg 6.5) | $1.85/hour |
| Mysteria | Mysteria | $20 | 15-20 hours (avg 17.5) | $1.14/hour |
| Season Pass | Season Pass (all 3) | $35 | 28-40 hours (avg 34) | $1.03/hour |
| Base game | Base game (comparison) | $70 | 60-80 hours main story | $1.00/hour |
Verdict: Season Pass is the best value at $1.03/hour. Mysteria is the best-value individual DLC at $1.14/hour. Legacy of the Forge is the worst pure value but cheapest entry point. If you intend to play all 3 DLCs, buy the Season Pass for $35.
Gating requirements per DLC
| DLC | Base game requirement | |
|---|---|---|
| Brushes With Death | Brushes With Death | Main story chapter 3 (mid-Kuttenberg) |
| Legacy of the Forge | Legacy of the Forge | Forging the Future main quest complete (chapter 2) |
| Mysteria | Mysteria | Base game main story complete (any ending) |
When to play each DLC
- Legacy of the Forge: play AS SOON as it releases AND you've completed Forging the Future main quest. The 12 new recipes are most useful mid-late game — earlier is better.
- Brushes With Death: play during chapter 3 of your first playthrough. The story integrates with the main Kuttenberg arc and feels natural at that point.
- Mysteria: save for after the base game main story completes. The post-game gating is intentional — Henry's peak skills make the hardest case (Black Mass) feasible.
- On replay: integrate Brushes With Death and Legacy of the Forge into your second playthrough as natural side content. Mysteria remains post-game only.
- Skip if: Brushes With Death — if you don't care about Kuttenberg-area side stories. Legacy of the Forge — if you don't use the Blacksmith Henry build. Mysteria — if you dislike occult/supernatural themes.
Frequently asked questions
How much do KCD2 DLCs cost?
Brushes With Death: $15. Legacy of the Forge: $12. Mysteria: $20. Total if bought separately: $47. Season Pass bundle: $35 (saves $12 / 25%). All prices are standalone — no subscription, no microtransactions.
When do KCD2 DLCs release?
Brushes With Death: Q3 2026 (July-September). Legacy of the Forge: Q4 2026 (October-December). Mysteria: Q1 2027 (January-March). Warhorse historically meets DLC release windows; KCD1's From The Ashes shipped on time. Expect Brushes With Death in mid-2026 with reasonable confidence.
Which KCD2 DLC should I buy first?
Brushes With Death for story players (story DLC, 8-12 hours, $15). Legacy of the Forge for blacksmith builds ($12, 12 new recipes). Mysteria for post-game players ($20, 15-20 hours of occult mysteries). If you'll play all three, buy the $35 Season Pass for a 25% discount.
Is the Season Pass worth it?
Yes if you're confident you'll play all 3 DLCs. $35 vs $47 separately = $12 savings. Warhorse's DLC quality track record is solid (KCD1's expansions were well-received). If uncertain, buy Brushes With Death first at $15 to evaluate before committing.
Do DLCs work with my existing save?
Yes — all three DLCs are story+content add-ons that work with any save at the appropriate gating point. Brushes With Death needs chapter 3 main story progress. Legacy of the Forge needs the Forging the Future main quest complete. Mysteria needs the base game main story complete. No save migration required.
Are KCD2 DLCs pay-to-win?
No. Warhorse confirmed all DLC gear is sidegrade-tier — interesting build options but not strictly better than base game options. Legacy of the Forge's legendary recipes are powerful but require investment in the Blacksmith Henry build to access. No microtransactions, no battle pass, no pay-to-win mechanics.
Will there be DLC #4 or beyond?
Not announced. Warhorse explicitly stated the 3-DLC roadmap covers all planned post-launch content. A KCD3 (sequel) is not on the public roadmap. Free patches (balance, accessibility, performance) will continue beyond Q1 2027 but no additional paid content is committed at this time.
