What Silk Spools do and why every one matters

Silk Spools are Silksong's silk-meter expansions — Hollow Knight 1's Mask Shards for silk. Each Spool adds one segment to your maximum silk pool, increasing both the number of Bind heals you can store and the number of Tool casts you can chain between rests. Hornet starts the game with 4 silk segments; collecting all 16 Spools maxes her at 20 segments, enough for 5 full Bind heals or 10 mid-tier Tool casts.

Spools matter more than raw HP in Silksong because the Bind heal scales with silk. Pickup order from Moss Grotto to Citadel

Following the natural progression path, the optimal pickup order matches the soft-locked region order. Start with Moss Grotto's free Spool right after the Moss Mother fight (south path from the chapel anchor). Then loop through Bonebottom's two Spools — one south of the bench in the broken bridge area, one east near the cinderbug ledge. By the time you have Clawline, you should be at 4 segments — enough for the first Bind-heal breakpoint upgrade at the next Spool.

After Clawline, Far Fields offers two Spools tied to hollow knight kills (one per knight, both south of the Clawline pickup zone). Deep Docks adds two more — one easy pickup near the cinderbug nests, one behind a Volt Filament resistance wall on the far east screen. Greymoor's two Spools sit behind a resonance puzzle and a wandering pilgrim path; the Needolin unlock makes both accessible.

Whiteward is the difficulty spike. Three Spools total, two of which sit behind breakable walls that only Harpoon can destroy.
