Nightreign Relic Farming Routes — Best Relics & Where to Find Them

Relic Tiers and Sources
| Tier | Source | Effect Magnitude | Drop Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common (Gray) | Mob kills, low-tier chests | Small stat boost (5–10%) | High |
| Uncommon (Green) | Mid-tier chests, Night 1 boss | Medium boost (10–15%) | Moderate |
| Rare (Blue) | Night 2 boss, late-Expedition chests | Large boost (15–25%) | Lower |
| Epic (Purple) | Night 3 boss, Nightlord | Major boost (25–40%) | Rare |
| Polychromatic (Gold) | Nightlord Phase 2 kills, Everdark Sovereign | Multi-stat bonuses | Very rare |
How the Relic System Works
Each Nightfarer has three Relic slots that hold equipped Relics for permanent buffs. Relics carry over between Expeditions — once equipped, they remain in effect forever (until swapped). This makes Relic stacking the primary long-term progression mechanic in Nightreign; rerolling a single Expedition for new Relics is the main grind loop after main campaign completion.
Relic types include: Attack Up (single-stat buffs to physical or magic damage), Defense Up (incoming damage reduction), Class-Specific (boosts the Nightfarer's active or passive ability), Resource (Mind, Endurance, Vigor stat boosts), and Polychromatic (combines 2–3 effects on one Relic). Polychromatic Relics are the rarest and most valuable late-game drops.
Equipping a Relic permanently consumes the Relic slot until you swap it for another. There's no cost to swap, but you can only have 3 active at once. Pick Relics that complement each other rather than stacking duplicates — three Attack Up Relics is less impactful than one Attack Up + one Defense Up + one Class-Specific.
Best Relic Setups per Class
| Slot | Recommended pick | Why / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Wylder (flex) | Attack Up + Endurance + Class Skill Cooldown Reduction | Adapts to any weapon scaling |
| Executor (DPS) | Critical Damage + Dexterity Scaling + Class Skill Power Up | Stacks crit window damage |
| Recluse (sorcery) | Intelligence + Mind + Cast Speed | Spell efficiency is everything |
| Guardian (tank) | Defense Up + Vigor + Class Skill (Shield Throw) Power Up | Tankiness scaling |
| Ironeye (ranged) | Dexterity + Bow Damage Up + Critical Damage | Long-range punish damage |
| Duchess (Duchessa, magic) | Intelligence + Faith + Class Skill Cooldown Reduction | Hybrid caster optimization |
| Raider (heavy) | Strength + Poise Damage Up + Heavy Armor Stamina Reduction | Stagger window scaling |
| Revenant (summoner) | Faith + Mind + Spirit Damage Up | Spirit-centric stacking |
Best Farming Routes by Tier
Tier-1 Expeditions: Run Night 1 → Night 2 → Night 3 on lowest difficulty. Focus on chest looting along the path rather than full boss kills. Each Tier-1 Expedition typically drops 3–5 Common/Uncommon Relics. Use this for new Nightfarer setup or learning a class.
Tier-2 Expeditions: Same path but increased boss HP and Relic drop quality. Aim for Rare (Blue) Relics here. Each Tier-2 Expedition drops 4–6 Relics including 1–2 Rare. Recommended for active progression past 50 hours of play.
Tier-3 and Tier-4 Expeditions: Endgame difficulty. Each Expedition is a 30–45 minute commitment but drops Epic (Purple) Relics reliably and Polychromatic (Gold) Relics rarely. This is the meta endgame farming loop. Recommended for organized 3-player teams with optimized gear.
Everdark Sovereign mode: highest difficulty post-main-campaign. Drops Polychromatic Relics at higher rates than Tier-4. Reserve this for after you've cleared the main Nightlord. Often single-handedly enables the strongest builds.
Relic Farming Routes Compared
| Route | Time per Run | Avg Relic Quality | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier-1 Quick Loop | 20 min | Common/Uncommon | New Nightfarer setup |
| Tier-2 Standard | 30 min | Uncommon/Rare | Mid-game progression |
| Tier-3 Endgame | 40 min | Rare/Epic | Build optimization |
| Tier-4 Sakurajima | 50 min | Epic/Polychromatic | Endgame perfection |
| Everdark Sovereign | 60+ min | Polychromatic-focused | Top 1% loadouts |
| Specific Nightlord rerun | 25 min | Boss-specific Relic | Target Relic farming |
Verdict: Tier-3 standard runs are the sweet spot for most players — good Relic quality, reasonable time investment, low burnout risk. Move up to Tier-4 once your build is locked in.
Maximizing Relic Drops
- Always loot all chests along the Expedition path — most Relics drop from chests, not bosses
- Kill Night 1, 2, and 3 bosses (full clear) for maximum boss-drop Relics
- Bring at least one Magic Find or Luck-scaling Relic equipped — slightly higher drop rates
- Co-op Expeditions give individual loot per player, so all teammates can pick up the same Relic type from one chest
- Repeat the same Expedition zone if a specific Relic dropped — geographic loot tables have RNG within them
- Don't waste time on Tier-1 once you're past 80 hours — Tier-3 drops are 3–5× higher quality
- Stockpile Relics in your storage — don't dismantle without comparing alternatives
Relic Inventory Management
Each Nightfarer has their own Relic inventory — Relics earned by your Wylder stay with that Wylder when you re-roll as Executor. This means alt-Nightfarers start with an empty Relic slate. Plan accordingly: if you're switching mains, accept the Relic gear gap.
Old Relics you've outgrown can be dismantled at the Roundtable Hold for Relic Shards, used to upgrade other Relics. The exchange rate is poor (3 dismantled common Relics → 1 Relic Shard), but it's the only way to upgrade Relics without farming them fresh.
Maximum inventory is large — you don't run out of Relic storage in normal play. Hoard duplicates that might fit different builds later. A Polychromatic Relic might suit Wylder today but Executor next week.
Frequently asked questions
Can I trade Relics with co-op teammates?
No. Relics are bound to the Nightfarer who picked them up. There's no trade mechanic — each player keeps their own loot from a shared Expedition.
What's the best Relic in the game?
Class-dependent. For Recluse, Intelligence Polychromatic (with cast speed and Mind). For Executor, Critical Damage Polychromatic. For Guardian, Defense Polychromatic. There's no universal 'best' — Relic value depends on which Nightfarer you main.
Do Relics persist if I delete my character?
No. Relics are character-bound. Deleting a character permanently loses their Relics. Backups via cloud save can recover deleted characters if synced before deletion.
Can I reroll a Relic's stats?
Limited. Some Relic upgrade options allow stat redistribution within the same Relic but at material cost. Most players accept the rolled stats and farm for a better drop rather than rerolling.
Are Common Relics worth equipping?
Only early game. A Lv 10 Wylder benefits significantly from a Common Attack Up. A Lv 50 Wylder finds Common Relics weak compared to Rare. Upgrade your Relic loadout as you progress.
How long does it take to fully equip Epic Relics?
Roughly 20–40 hours of Tier-3 Expedition farming. Polychromatic Relics may take 50+ hours to land class-specific ones. Many players run alt-Nightfarers in parallel to spread the grind.
