What Steel Springs are for
Steel Springs gate a surprising amount of mid-tier crafting in ARC Raiders. They're required for the Torrente I weapon, for several common weapon mods including Extended Mags and Advanced Electrical Components, for Shrapnel Grenades, and for an Expedition Project quota that appears early in your progression.
Because demand is spread across both consumables and permanent unlocks, players almost always run dry around the time they want to start optimizing their loadout. The fix is routine: every session, top up springs from Celeste first, then plan one industrial-loot pass through Spaceport or Dam Battlegrounds.
Step 1 — Buy from Celeste every session
Before deploying topside, visit Celeste in the Traders tab. She carries a daily stock of Steel Springs priced in Seeds. Seeds accumulate from Scrappy between runs and from the Seed Vault on Stella Montis, so the currency cost is generally manageable. Her restock resets daily — checking before every session compounds into a meaningful supply advantage over players who skip the trader loop.
Treat the daily Celeste purchase as zero-risk free springs. Even if you don't immediately need them, the surplus insulates you against a dry run on the surface.
Step 2 — Farm industrial zones on the right maps
Steel Springs spawn from industrial loot containers: reinforced crates in garages, workshops, mechanical rooms, and factory floors. They do not drop from ARC enemies and do not spawn in residential or organic-themed areas.
Two maps are consistently reliable. Spaceport's Vehicle Maintenance area and surrounding warehouses spawn springs at a solid rate and the map skews lower-traffic — the safer pick for solo players. Dam Battlegrounds' Power Generation Complex, particularly the basement levels, offers the highest density per loot container of any map, but Dam is contested PvP territory, so plan for combat or run with a squad.
Water Treatment on the same map is a secondary zone. Lower density than Power Generation, but it falls naturally on the path to extraction and is worth sweeping if you have inventory space.
Recommended farming route
- Location
- Spaceport → Dam Battlegrounds combo
- Start point
- Hideout / Celeste
- Yield
- ~8–15 springs per 15–20 minute run (patch-dependent)
Steps
- At the hideout, purchase Celeste's full daily Springs stock (~60 seconds).
- Deploy to Spaceport. Hit the Vehicle Maintenance hangars, then sweep adjacent industrial buildings.
- Extract. Redeploy to Dam Battlegrounds.
- Clear the Power Generation Complex basement first, then upper floors.
- Hit Water Treatment on the way to extraction.
- Back at the hideout, recycle any Spring Cushions or industrial junk before selling anything.
Tips
- Avoid kitchens, living rooms, and outdoor containers — they're on residential loot tables and rarely roll springs.
- Deploy Dam Battlegrounds off-peak when contested zones have lower player density if you're running solo.
- Track your Expedition Project quota separately from your weapon-mod buffer so you don't over-farm.
Step 3 — Recycle the right junk
Some items that appear as trash in the loot screen are worth more recycled than sold. Spring Cushions are the primary example: low direct sell value, but their recycling output feeds back into the Steel Spring pipeline. Before selling anything after a run, open the recycler and compare expected output against the merchant sell price for any industrial-themed items.
Recycling adds a meaningful supplement to your spring count over a full farming session and helps stretch each run's value.
Common farming mistakes
- Looting residential or organic-themed areas — Steel Springs are industrial-only, so non-industrial containers waste run time.
- Ignoring Celeste — daily trader stock compounds fast; players who skip the trader visit consistently fall behind on spring supply.
- Selling Spring Cushions without checking recycler output first — always recycle and re-evaluate before selling.
- Farming lower-yield maps like Blue Gate when Spaceport or Dam offer significantly higher industrial density.
- Over-farming past your Expedition Project quota — once the quota is met, redirect spring-farming time to other bottleneck materials.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Steel Spring used for in ARC Raiders?
Steel Springs are used for the Torrente I weapon, weapon mods like Extended Mags and Advanced Electrical Components, Shrapnel Grenades, and a fixed-quantity Expedition Project quota early in progression.
Where is the best place to farm Steel Springs?
The Power Generation Complex on Dam Battlegrounds has high density per container. Spaceport's Vehicle Maintenance area is a reliable alternative and tends to be safer for solo players due to lower player traffic.
Can you buy Steel Springs from a trader?
Yes — Celeste in the Traders tab restocks Steel Springs daily for Seeds. Check current stock and price in-game, as exact numbers vary by patch.
What recycling items give Steel Springs?
Spring Cushions are the main recycling source. Other industrial junk may also yield springs — always check the recycler output before selling.
Are Steel Springs rare?
They're classified as Uncommon. They only spawn in industrial loot containers, which limits where they appear. Focused runs on Spaceport and Dam Battlegrounds make them consistently obtainable.
Should I sell or recycle Steel Springs?
Keep them until your Expedition Project is complete and your target weapon mods are built. Only sell true surplus — Springs are consumed faster than most players expect once they start optimizing loadouts.
